I ran a few searches and got plenty of ideas, but they seem above my price range. I just want a USB or 3.5mm port to connect my phone or iPod. I don't need to navigate with the stereo controls, other than the volume.

Not looking for $60+ adapters, just a simple way to connect. Any ideas? Am I asking for too much?

Did you see this?

This is the audio jack you use, it's only $1.20: https://www.radioshack.com/products/radioshack-1-8-stereo-panel-mount-phone-jack

Plus the small bits of wire, it's a very inexpensive mod to make. You could also use Radio Shack pt number 2740249; it's a two pack and has the terminals in a different spot, as it's not set up to mount directly to a PCB.

That's cool. My RBK version is different, and I don't know if this is above my skill level, but I'll explore it. Thank you.

Also wonder if I could splice into the other end of this adapter (using it in the CD changer port): https://www.crutchfield.com/p_541PXHCH3/PAC-Car-Cable-Adapter.html?tp=125.

Maaaybe... ? When I drill down the options to check fit, it says it wont work on my factory installed in-dash cd changer RBQ radio... honestly, both options have you pulling the radio out.. only the way I linked to that installs a 3.5mm jack looks cleaner and once the radio is opened up, you're only soldering a few wires. Heck, you could probably find an electronics repair shop near you that could do it for you for a small bench charge. Those shops solder things all the time.

That would require you to put the radio into CD changer mode, which it won't do unless it can communicate with the CD changer. The $60 boxes just fool the radio into thinking there's a CD changer connected.

I use one of these.
Had it for 9 years and works great.

Yeah, that'll work too. FM modulators have lower sound quality though, better when wired into the antenna connection like that one, but still not as ideal as a direct connection to the amplifier internally. But, it'll work....
