Has anyone noticed that Photobucket is now charging a fee to allow 3rd party hosting of pics? In other words, all my pics linked to posts here and everywhere else on the web that reside on Photobucket are blocked unless I pay up. This development seriously hampers our ability to help each other here in the forums.

The fee is $399.99 per year, recurring! This sounds like they took inspiration from ransomware to me. No way I am willing to pay that. :furious: Looks like we've all been hosed.

Edit: Looks like we can still copy the URL's from blocked images, paste them into the web browser, and bring up the pics on Photobucket's website. That's a pain in the :banghead: but at least we can still get to critical images if we need to.

Does anyone know of a good free alternative to Photobucket?

Looks like we should download our photobucket images to local memory. Probably good policy anyway, but I overlooked it.
:furious: Right after I finally got it working for me too...

This is exactly why I don't like hosting services. Flickr has worked okay for me for the few I host but I prefer to add them directly to a forum post. Never really understood hosting off-site for forum environments. Hope you can recover the images they are holding for ransom... :furious:

It looks like the photos are all still there (until PB goes out of business perhaps) so I can still download them.

The major problem is that every historic post and how-to in this forum and countless others across the web that are linked to Photobucket images now have broken links. All of my threads going back to 2011 on Lost, Jeep Forum, and TNTTT have lost their image links. Even if I find a better hosting solution (because not all forums allow direct uploads of images), I will need to go back into my old how-to threads to fix all the image links. I don't have time for that right now. It's very frustrating, not only for thread authors like me, but for all the people who look to the forums for help with their Jeeps.

Plus the website is so buggy and slow.

They are holding our picture postings for ransom! :furious:
For me I have 245 pictures now with the ransom payment warning instead of the actual pictures!
Imagine having to find and repair or replace 245 links!!! :banghead:

Time to move on to some other hosting service!

Photobucket can go to hell!

What is the best options; anyone have any good advice??
thanks,

Is this for real?

Like, seriously. All my Photobucket pics are still showing on this forum.

All the pics are from my Photobucket.
And I haven't paid them a penny.

Very Real! As real as taxes and death! :banghead:

Apparently myself and some others on LOST have reached some unknown limit of sharing pictures.
I was only at 7% usage!
You may not have shared enough pictures off their site yet to require the ransom payment???

Their web site is having problems right now as well, as I cannot even pull up one of my pictures in my Library!
Maybe they got hacked?

This is what all my hosted pictures now show:

Yeah they will be out of business soon enough,$400 per year for 3rd party hosting? Yeah not a wise choice on there part.

Usually if you right-click and select view photo, it can pull up the original image.

That's not working for yours either, WWDiesel.

Someone asked me about using Apple iCloud. I don't know squat about them. Would they work?

And then it quit working again.
Maybe it's my browser.

What is the very best service to use, Smugmug, Postimage, Flickr, or one of the many others available today?
Simple is always better!
I was able to download all my pictures from Photobucket and save them to my computer! Thank goodness!
So now I would like to upload them to a new service and start rebuilding all the broken links as time allows.
I do not want to spend a lot of time and energy doing this only to have the same thing happen again as Photobucket did to all of us!!!!! :banghead:

All advice appreciated!

Happy 4th to all my Diesel friends!!!!!

X2, WWDiesel! I can rebuild my old how tos but I don't want it to be 10 clicks to get each URL or have the new hosting site do the same thing as Photobucket.

:JEEPIN: and happy birthday USA!!! Hope you all have a great day!

I agree! I am leaning toward Postimage as it seems reading it's TOU to be one of the more forum friendly services available???
