I thought the bumpers were designed for this? My truck has never over heated before. Ive towed 5300lbs and it didnt overheat. Now, after the ARB install every big highway hill I come to the gauge starts to climb. I was one tick off of the red "H" when I hit the top of Snoqualmie Pass here in washington. It has a five mile long approach and ist 3200 ft high.

Any ideas from anybody? Lots of ARB bumpers installed around here.

I know nothing about the ARB bumper and winches but is your electric fan working?

Maybe you disturbed some wiring/connections during the installation

This thread is talking exactly what you are facing. Recent addition of the aftermarket bumper... and now has cooling issues on long pulls.

Takes off bumper, no problems.
Installs it again, problems return.

Seemed to be the general consensus that if everything is working as designed, (fan clutch, WP, thermostat, air flow over the radiator) then there probably isn't a bumper yet built to cause enough disturbance of airflow.. or at least enough to cause cooling issues.

His problem was not enough coolant in a non burped engine. The system, even w/0 enough coolant, apparently was 'ok' with the heat it needed to move with the amount of air flowing.
Add a 'change' of air flow, and he found out it wasn't adequate!

I'll ask you, when yours heats up, does it quickly cool down (say 10 seconds or less) or more like 5-10 minutes when you either level off on the road, or are just driving around at non-combat speeds? LOL

I've had an ARB bumper on my CRD for many years now, and I have never experienced any overheating. Even when the fan clutch was bad. (In fact, it's been so long that it's probably bad again.) My ride also has Asfir skid plates, which make a smooth transition from the ARB panel that spans from the trailing bottom edge of the bumper to the front of the skid.

I do not have a winch in mine, but I suspect you have something else going on.

Never had an over heating problem. I don't have a winch though.

Definitely check that the fan is working when the engine is warmed up.

I'm on my second radiator though. The stock plastic sided radiators aren't that long lasting and if they start to crack = loss of pressure = over heating.
