And come across this Ford F-350 Powerstroke Diesel and it's high centered on the side of the road, with his 2 right tires completely buried in mud. I pull up in front of him and stop, my Jeep barely bigger than the cab of his truck it looks like. I carry a strap at all times, mostly for someone to pull me out of an idiotic situation. I go ask him if he's stuck (dumb question), and he says "Yeah, been trying to get out of here for an hour now" I say 'Well, I have a strap...'. He laughs, "You think you can pull me outta here with THAT thing??" I said I dunno, but we'll give'er a go. I had left my hitch hook at home, so I pulled in front of his truck and used my front tow hooks. One end of the strap on my left tow hook, then wrapped around his tow loop, then back to my right tow hook.

I get back in, and I have my wife in the jeep, she says 'WHAT are you DOING??'.. Just hold on I said. I put it in reverse, slowly till the strap was taught, then gave it some gas. Engines rev, some jerky movements, tires chirping slightly, my wife says STOP STOP HE'S GONNA HIT US (He wasn't :) ). I stopped, get out and there is the truck, fully on the road now. I started removing the strap, he jumped out and handed me a $20 which I tried to refuse, it only took about 5 minutes.

As we both started to climb back into our vehicles, he yelled out "DONCHOO TELL ANYONE ABOUT PULLIN ME OUT WITH THAT JEEP!!" and laughs. I laugh, and we both drive away smiling.

Thought you fellow Liberty owners would appreciate that : )

Yep a KJ can pull more then you think,I pull my buddies '00 SD(8" lift,35" tires) out about once everytime I'm back home in SD and I'm still holding for ransom one glossy 5x8 of my KJ pulling my buddies '76 Chevy 1/2ton off a tree stump he somehow got high centered on(very long story),he denies it still to this day since that has been the only time it's ever been stuck and I got proof(locked in my safety deposit box 8) ).

Here's a pic of a purpose built rock buggy getting pulled by.................A KJ

Love it!!

What would your wife say now... does she think you are a hero or still thinks you are endangering the KJ doing this random acts of off road kindness?

Nice, chalk up another for the KJ.
I pulled an F350 dualie and his a dual snowmobile trailer out of the snow. People laugh at our 'little' KJ's but they pull their own weight.

Great story!

I've pulled F150's, Rangers, Wranglers, Toys, a 1-ton GMC truck, etc. out of holes/high centers. OH, and towed a tube buggy about a 1/2 mile back to the trailhead, myself! (Whose Lib is that, btw, Troy? Are the lights always aimed at the stars or what? How's that work?) Never doubt the KJ! :D

Good one!

Here's my story:

I was working in my garden when a neighbour drove up and asked if I could be of any help since there was a big truck stuck in his yard. The truck had driven down a muddy slope to be able to reach his back yard and unload a tree.

Thinking it might be a normal delivery van I said 'yeah, no problem'.

When I arrived at the place it was a full-size M.A.N truck..stuck in the mud up to the diff. So we tried digging and rocks and planks and nothing, the thing wouldn't go up the slope. It kept digging itself into the ground. They asked me if I would tie it to my KJ with a sling. I thought 'Hell no, that thing weighs at least 19000lbs. I'm not gonna risk my tranny on that.' Then another friend of mine showed up with his Nissan Navarra, you guys would probably say it's a mid sized Pick up, for us it's a BIG size car.

He wanted to have a go at the truck with the sling. I told him not to do it but anyway he did. Then he got stuck. Now his car has 4x4 but it's the 'press-this-button-so-the-light-comes-on-but-it-won't-do-you-any-good' type. It kept powering the rear axle like 80% so no way he was getting the truck out, let alone himself. Now he is a very dear friend and so I tied my KJ on his car which was still tied to the truck. ( thinking 'oh well, it didn't break the Nissan so...let's have some American Muscle now!:p )

I pulled 4Lo, sounded the horn so they would also power up and....of we went....al the way up and onto the road again.......darn now that's amazing....everybody was looking at us with their mouths open like 'how does that little car do that?'

I didn't take any pics, was a bit occupied handling the clutch, sorry, but it was something like this.

Image

Ofcourse I know the KJ didn't pull all the weight of both vehicles up the slope since they were under their own steam as well, but...still pretty amazing stuff!

My wife thinks I'm crazy, but to my 9 year old son who was watching 'Daddy pulling out a monster truck' I'm definitely a hero :)

And I was 4-lo, would 4-hi have been better? I've always towed people out in 4-low in my old 4runner (sadly missed), but this was a first for the Jeep.

I've only rescued a Volkswagen Beetle with my KJ. The woman got stuck in icy ruts backing out of her driveway
and was sitting there unable to move for over an hour when I came up behind her and gave her a tug.

Well once I did give a little tug to another KJ out on the trail.
