Post subject:  Removing the back of the passenger seat permanently(ish)

I plan on doing extensive solo backcountry traveling and want to be able to sleep in the Jeep (2005 CRD) when needed.

I want to be able to stretch out enough on the right side but need a little more room, so I thought I'd remove the back of the passenger side seat as I will not be having a passenger. This will allow me to stretch out. Leaving the seat is preferred as I don't want to interfere with the air bag sensor and also allows me to fully stretch out.

Does anyone see any issues with doing this? I'm also hoping the seat sensors don't have anything to do with the back.

I don't plan on reinstalling back until such time I sell it or some other need arises.

Hopefully, when I remove the seat with back attached, the ability to just remove the back will be a straight forward procedure (?????) Then I will simply reinstall the seat only.

Thanks in advance for you input!

I can confirm that the occupancy sensor for the front passenger seat is only in the lower section. You should be good.

The passenger seats from some or all 08+ liberties fold flat forward. They can be swapped in with a little effort. Folded flat the 08+ seat is a few inches higher than the rear seat when folded though.

Thanks for fast reply!

The 08 seat swap with the back attached is not an option, even with the back laying flat to the seat, as I need the elevation of the OEM seat ONLY.

I'm just hoping that removing the back doesn't create another issue.

Thanks again.
