Hello---
I have a brain buster for everyone today.
Cliff notes: Ticking noise that sounds like its comming from behind the drivers side dash at speeds above 50mph.
I was traveling down I-96 today, going about 70-75mph.. radio on.. AC on... and hear a slight ticking sound... sounds to be comming from behind the guage cluster / front left wheel area. I turn radio and blower/fan off and I can now tell that it is definatley my vehicle, it was pretty loud, I could hear it over my roof rack. I pulled over and as soon as I get into right lane and move to the shoulder, my speed dropped below 50 and the noise went away... I looked under hood for anything obvious, check wheel well and continued onward. As soon as i got back up above ~50mph it came back. The frequency of the ticking noise didnt increase with my speed, but it did get louder. The noise stopped about 30 miles later as I continued at 70 - 80mph. I tried also to see if perhaps it was something in the trans, so I gave it some gas so it would downshift, and the noise persisted.
It is an 05 Liberty Renegade with 24,800 miles. The front bumper is cracked, not that I think it is what was making the noise, but it is always a possibility I guess. Last time I was at the sand dunes I came down hard on it (that is what cracked the bumper) Again, not sure if that could be related. I also have a Python alarm, and the brain / wiring is below the steering wheel in that area to the right of the fuse box as you sit in the driver seat.
Also, just had my multifunction switch replaced last wednesday.
Any and all help appreciated.
Thanks, Sean
Edit... ticking frequency was (clearly an estimation) 5 ticks/second...sounded similar to the exhaust of an old beat up truck.
