Mile Marker PE 8000 on MM Cradle synthetic winch line, with aluminum Hawse fairlead in a Rock Lizard Beta Prototype front bumper. As for jeep recovery, unknown, haven't been stuck since I got the winch... go figure... It has effectively recovered a stuck HMMWV at work though. A little slow, but I do not mind, gives me more control that way. Could also have been slow due to the weight of the HMMWV as well.[/img]

USAFCOP, that is a serious setup you have there. NICE PICS!!!!   What are those scrape marks on the rock surface in front of ur KJ on your last pic from???

I am afraid to ask what that cost you. I trust your winch is portable rather than permanent fixed.

How much does that rock lizard weigh and is it readily available yet? Does it protect your winch from being stolen? Does it have an integral front hitch or is it separate?

Not to steal anyones thunder..... the winch mount is portable he can take it off when ever he wants to save on weight issues. RL is working on the bumpers as we speak you can see the 2 or 3 threads in the 4X4 section. the hitch mount is incorporated into thr front of the bumper, I would imagine you could put some sort of locking device or pin to keep your winch safe.

The Mile Marker PE8000 was on sale for a great price. A few members bought it during the sale. I have mine sitting in its box waiting for a Monitor Lizard front bumper (by Rock Lizard) so I can mount my winch like Ted has his set up.

Those scrapes in the rock are from previous people scraping their vehicles on it or from winch lines. Of those that attempted Hells Gate from LOST, none needed assistance or scraped.

How much was the PE8000 and is it still available for a deal?

I saw a post awhile back re: priorities. So is this the priorty of mods for 4x4ing:

1. Off road wheels
2. Lift
3. recovery ie winch

Would it be mute to get a winch b4 a lift?

A winch is much lower on the priorities list. More a luxury item unless you wheel alone a lot.

I got a winch before a lift, and it has come in handy for doing some odd jobs, like pulling a 5000 gal. water tank into the air by way of a pulley suspended from a 5/8 steel cable about 30' in the air. I have a front hitch and a carrier with a Mile Marker 8000 electric. Works great, but I have had the soloniod stick while in use.

Do you happen to have a side view of that?

Post subject:  Side View of bar.

I do mate, but i cant post that just yet. IT doesnt stick out as far as the ARB one though....(just in case u were wondering  )

It sit really well on the front, but with mine, they are going to chop it back another 50-65mm to give me extra approach angle considering how much rock work I do. After they do that, I wont be able to run a winch, not that I was going to or anything though.....

I'll bet the shipping from Aussie land to Yankee land is jaw-droppingly high.

*Note* droppingly is not a word. It was made up for special effects.

heh! Its actually being made specifically for you guys in the States, that's the market its designed for. Alot of the KJer's in OZ are school bus wagons, but I must admit, the ones who like they're 4x4ing (like me!! :P) cirtainly put them through they're paces. Its weird over here, 4x4 accessories are sooooooo frieken exy$$ so alot of people dont bother getting them.
You've got to take out a second mortgage to buy anything

Claudio, that is a nice clean looking setup... very conservative.

Please help me with the following:

How did you mount your winch?

Welded to frame or did you use a special bracket?

How much weight did this setup add as I suspect this would be the lightest without a heavy bumper?

Did you put a lift on?

How much sag is on the front end?

I like the Oz too... ARBS are from Australia too so I hope freight isn't too bad if they come by the container full. Keep us posted.
