Man.. Its really hard to buy tires..
I have never been through this before, but it is difficult.

I want to get BFG 245/70/r16
$162 at Town Fair Tire.. then they charge $27 to balance, and Valve stem, so what ever... they are going to be $189 or something before taxes...

Then I called Sears.. that guy gave me a song and a dance about how that is the wrong tire for a Jeep, it is in the wrong load range... and why would I do such a thing.. I did not even mention it was for a Liberty

Man I thought I would just be able to watz in and buy some freeken tires..

any input would be helpful...

forget the corporate places. when it comes to getting non-standard size/load range tires, stick to a small shop. Do some more searching. Surely you can find something. 160 a tire for BFG's is actually around standard price, but usually most places have a buy-3-get-1-free deal or something like that.

Doesn't wal-mart only sell particular tire models? I just did a quick site-search, and while they say they sell BFGs, they don't have the ATKO or any mud tires, the "rugged trail" is the closest they have, and that's really more of an all-season, despite the name.

Tire rack or ebay is about the best prices on tires I have seen.http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=Goodyear&model=Wrangler+MT%2FR Tire rack has MT/R's fro 121.00 shipping is roughly 50 to 60 bucks and you can find mom and pop shops to mount and balance for 50 or 60 bucks. Or befriend a tech at the stealership and see if he could mount them on the side usually ubercheap (case of beer).

I can't believe they would charge for balance after you purchased. Most places will do that for free....especially for expensive ones.

Make it a rule for yourself. Learn all that you can about tires before you choose and buy. It is like buying running shoes. There is so much to know and so much pain and agony that can come from not knowing and just going out and buying something that looks good or is "just in your price range." So much comfort and joy when you have the knowledge and get the right product.

The website doesn't list all the tires they sell for some reason. I got my AT's at the Wal-Mart I work at, and we also sell BFG MT's and MT/R's.

They ride NICE!
Little more road noise, but I dig that. I always had these tires on all of my jeeps. I find that thses tires work very well with jeeps.

It cost me like 10 bucks to mount and ballance each tire. I bought 5 of these. Sears does it pretty cheep. OH YEA, that valve stem crap that they say you need, Its a crock of S@$T............ they do that so it will be faster to get the air out so the cut it off insted of using the straighter puller......

Forget Wal-Mart. They won't mount or balance any tires that are not listed as stock size. I tried there when looking for 245/75/r16 GY MT/r's or BFG M/T's and they said that they would only order them. They were way to expensive anyway. I found a small shop and I got my MTR's for $138 each mounted, balanced, and tax. Call all the small shops within 50 or so miles of your place, and get prices.

How did you hook up w/ free shipping?

I have no Idea, All I know when I got the invoice, it said free shipping and there was no tax charge.
When I ordered the set of 5 tires, it was at my door in less then 24 hours.

I like the tire rack people. Either they messed up or it was a special that week, day or month.
