This is the Jeep JT concept pickup going into the bathtub in MOAB.

1) Cool concept I never saw before, so I thought I'd share...

2) Does anyone that's been to MOAB know how a standardly lifted (2.5" lift, 245/75s, etc...) Liberty would fare on this obstacle?

There are several bath tubs on Hell's Revenge. Only one of which you can take a KJ through. The others are way too steep.

Here is an old video of a KJ doing the bathtub.

Wow thanks for posting that. First time seeing it. It looked pretty steep going up but the KJ ate it all.

It's pretty steep going down too, you just can't tell from the video angle.

The other tubs are almost vertical. I've seen highly modified rigs do them and it's pretty impressive.

I just saw the JT in a magazine yesterday. They had a good interview with the Skunk Werks crew. They made it sound like it was really easy to fab up the pickup concept. They wanted to show the flexibility of the Unlimited JK line.

They mensioned something about the Egyptian Army as well but I can't remember why. Any one have the mag?

From the latest issue of Jp Magazine:

the JT was built from a model J8 Egyptian military JK body. The body for the J8 is a 4dr unlimited (116 inch wheelbase) with the rear doors and rear foot well removed. All that was needed was to make a truck cab and add the steel bulkhead between the passenger compartment and the cargo area. The passenger compartment retains the factory sport bar and the cargo box is 47 inches wide by 61 inches long.

Drivetrain is a stock 3.8L V6 with 4 speed automatic, NV241 4:1 rock-trac transfer case. front and rear Dana 44 axles with Tru-lock electronic lockers.

Hey Chrysler, I want one!!!

I see that a lot when a Jeep pickup is mentioned. But I am curious about something. Since Chrysler dumped the current Liberty diesel in favor of the Bluetec that was supposed to go into the Grand Cherokee, what diesel engine could they put in a truck based off the Wrangler Unlimited? Is the Bluetec project still going forward? I thought it was mostly a Mercedes derived engine and since the Germans sold off Chrysler, they won't be able to use their stuff anymore. I would think if they decide to build a Jeep pickup and offer a diesel option, they would probably use something from Cummins since they already use them in the Dodge trucks.

Daimler will still retain an interest in Chrysler even after the sale is final, and the word is that they may still share projects like the Diesel engines and some common platforms.

I dont belive Cummins has a small enough engine to fit the JT Application. I think they have a Medium Duty application engine, but its still far too heavy and large.

However, CAT has a large selection of small engines to fit light and medium duty applications.

Any Inline cylinder configuration Diesel is acceptable.

Honestly, they need to bring back the 2.8L World Engine.

Chrysler only dumped the 2.8 CRD in America (thanks EPA), it is still sold elsewhere. The bluetec is not an engine-- but is an afterburning technology applied to an engine. The Benz was the first to use Bluetec on their 3.0 engine. They then put the 3.0 with Bluetec in the Grand and they are selling them in the US. just not very many. They could have, and may still yet, put Bluetec on the old 2.8 CRD. The issue with applying Bluetec to the KJ was that there was no room in the KJ design for Bluetec without lots of modifications. They did not think it was worth doing those mods to only sell the CRD KJ in limited numbers for one more year before the new redesign (KK) came out. In addition, the regulations from the EPA were still up in the air-- so they did not even know if Bluetec met the EPA's specs going forward. Hence, all small diesel engines were not produced for the US market for 2007 (VW's TDI's were also discontinued in 07).

If they are really going to make a commitment to diesel in the US (and I don't even think Chrysler knows that at this point)-- look for the JK and the KK to come out with an optional 2.8 and for the 3.0 to start showing up in force in the Grand.

By the way, the JK was designed with the 2.8 liter CRD in mind and several manufacturer plated 2.8 CRD JK's have been spotted in Moab and elsewhere undergoing testing. The newer version of the 2.8 is supposed to be out soon (codenamed Panther), maybe next year. If I remember right you can already buy a JK 2.8 CRD overseas.

I must have missed that. I didnt think Cummins made a 4 Banger Diesel anymore. Learn something new everyday.

820 pounds. I wonder what the size difference between the 2.8L and this cummins 4.5L is.

Im a fan of CAT motors, just not the Twin Turbo CAT's.
