We took a 1969 bug back in 1977 and did that. installed it up on a CJ frame and running gear, stuck some old 38s on it and wheeled it like had no tomorrow. Sadly it now resides out behind a buddys barn, sinking ever so slowly back into nature! 
Of course we left the winshield etc in and it was also a DD for quite a while |
