To be honest, I have never actually liked the Patriot. I always thought they never qualified as a Jeep, like the Compass. That has changed since I've seen the 2011 Jeep Patriot. I've read up on the new 2011 Patriot and it looks to be a great Jeep. On the 4WD models, the Patriot gets extra ground clearance. I got on Jeeps website and built my own Patriot for $21,390 and that's equipped with a 5 speed transmission! For the Jeep I built it comes with a Freedom Drive II Off-road Group, which includes a full set of skid plates, tow hooks and more good stuff. I can't forget to mention this Jeep comes with a Off-Road Crawl Ratio, sweet! At least Jeep is attempting to resurrect their smaller vehicle line ups and with the revamp of the 2011 Patriot, I think they're doing a great job. I sure wouldn't mind getting my hands on one.

It is slowly growing into an "XJ". (not really)
The "Off-Road Crawl Ratio" is still not truly 4wd lo, but should be sufficient for the people actually interested in it.
Makes me want to buy one for my mom.

I always liked the looks of the Patriot.

The Freedom Drive II is just a lower gear reduction though since there is no T-case with 4-lo. The KJ/KK has a completely different drivetrain.

It should make a good all weather DD and still have some off-road capability.

I want one, but I have a choice: new house or new Jeep? Umm, I'll pick new house! Either one, I can't get for a couple years so I chose the house.

I really like the Patriot though you can't really compare it to the Liberty. I would compare it more to a Subaru Outback or something like that. I would rock it for sure if that is what I was looking for in a vehicle. Looks sharp too.

Wasn't comparing it to a Liberty. :goink: Guess the people above did, or someone did.

I wasn't targeting anyone specifcally, I should have said comparing it to a traditional "jeep" with true off road components. The Patriot is good for what it is and I think there is a market for it.

I just saw one of the new 11 Compasses and had to do a double take. The new styling ques from the Grand look awesome on this.

While the Patriot does appear to be getting a little better off road from the factory, however the CVT transmission used in them still appears to have longevity issues.

My Uncle showed up to hunting camp with an 09 Patriot. We had the perfect opportunity to compare my 05 Renegade, an 04 Wrangler and it. For what he uses it for, commuting, going fishing, etcetera, it's a pretty nice little setup. We both carry small boats on the roof in the summer, and his is much easier to get the boat off of. However, he did attempt to take it down a road that he had successfully navigated last fall in his 05 GMC 2500. Didn't work so well, tore the muffler off actually! But for the most part, it's a nice little Jeep vehicle.

I would think (off)loading the boats from the roof would be easier on the Patriot. I'm only 5'10" and it can be a reach for me to get the canoe/kayaks up on top the libby. A small step or standing in an open door sill helps but still not optimum. A positive is that my kayak fits inside the libby (rear hatch closed too) if I fold the front passenger seat flat. Good only if I'm paddlling solo. Does the Patriot have the front passenger folding seat as well?

I didn't check his to see if his had the folding front seat. I guess after reading online some of the base models didn't come with a folding front seat, but most did, you'd have to probably test fit your kayak anyway, looks to be less head room than in the liberty. I also read that some came with reclining and folding rear seats? That sounds like a nice feature as well.

I really appreciate the looks of the Patriot. The price is nice and the interior was roomier than I expected. The one I test drove was a 2.0 I think, mated with a CVT. It was too sluggish for my tastes but if you can get past that it seems like a great option.

A KJ owner must tread lightly on the subject of what is a "real Jeep" and what is not.

It seems that Jeep Patriot is also a good one. But, I have read some reviews complaining about the Jeep. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently publicized that it will be looking into supposed stalling troubles with the Jeep Patriot from the model years 2011 and 2012. At the same time, it was announced that some Jeeps may soon be produced in China.
