x2. Not to mention destroying an otherwise fine luxury vehicle.

I am very surprised. My boss just bought one of his kids one of these and when he asked me what I thought of it, I laughed and said she can keep it, lol. However in this configuration...not too bad looking. Curious what its capabilities are...and...still not a fan. My boss just laughs at me when I pull into his place and says almost every time...when are you gonna wash that FLIPPING THING?! I just shrug and say, hey, it is a jeep! That mud is wax!

Being a Mercedes i'm sure it's a great vehicle. As to capabilities i'd guess it's quite limited do to an IFS and IRS. While the Liberty flexes well in the front for an IFS it will never flex like a properly set up SFA. Multiply that by front and rear and you're fairly limited.

Speaking from ignorance, but i seriously doubt it has a front or even rear locker (at least not stock or as an option). Now lets talk about availability of aftermarket off-road parts. And while we're on it, how about just plain ole', go to the scrap-yard, replacement parts? Nice thing about wranglers is there are a bazillion (yes i checked. the proper number is a bazillion) of 'em out there so not hard to find replacement parts. My buddy destroyed his YJ drive shaft at the badlands and when we pulled it into the shop they were able to pull one off another one they had sitting out back for parts. My guess would be replacement parts for this would be harder to find than even our KJ's.

Still . . . it is a Mercedes.

Looks to me like someone wasted a whole lot of money.

As long as they're happy with it though I guess that's all that matters.

Not a rock crawler, limited on suspension travel. They handle well and are pretty quick. Great for sand blasting. I took my parents ML through a creek and up a clay washout. It didn't get stuck. It's a pretty decent electronic awd system with a low crawl gear. We took it though high water no problem too.

After doing a little research ... Here ya go.

From the owner:

Vehicle: ML 230 2001
Location: Venezuela

The front bumper, tire carrier/rear bumper are custom made, it took me arround 2 months to make them, i'm pretty sure i have the plans in autocad, from that time, (3 years ago) i'll have to look for them (if you're interested), the light bar is from a jeep liberty, it almost fit perfectly, you just have to heat it up in an oven for 10 min, to bend it a little to fit the curve of the roof.

I dont have a rear lift, what i did is I change the spirals, they are from a G wagon, the shocks are Rancho 9000 adjustables. Let me tell you that the travel (the vertical movement) of the tire was improved a lot, and I gained arround 3 inches in height, plus 2 more from the size of the tires. I havent cranked torsion bars... (((YET!!!)))

The tires are Nitto extreme terrain, Mud Grappler, 33X12,5R20. They perform beautifully off road 5/5, on road 4/5, they still are awesome on the street even on wet, the only thing anoying is the noise they make on the highway (you can always solve that turning up the volume of your stereo). or you colud choose the a/t model... if offroad is not for every weekend.

The winch ia a Warn 9500si, more than enough for weight of the ml, keep in mind that mine is a 230!!!.

As for the rest of the mods, the list goes on and on for 3 years, i'll spread them in several replies as questions come by....if you dont mind.
My wife says that if I spend as much time with her as I spend with TONK ( thats how we call our ml as a diminutive for tonka, those big yellow toy trucks one use to have when we were kids), I would be THE PERFECT HUSBAND....

Thats what i was thinking. I wonder how many times those have been replaced. Especially since its awd. I sure hope he enjoys it for the amount of money put in it.

TBH, i like it. Needs wax and detail badly, but it looks like it was done right. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons people don't lift them, but I do know they are great 4x4's in Europe, they are probably stock for stock just as capable as a grand cherokee, they just cost a lot more
