| Post subject: | SAMCO turbo hoses.... PLEASE READ! |
There's a very big thread on this subject in the CRD forum, due to efforts made by US (many thanks to Sir Sam) and EURO Lost members SAMCO is going to make silicone turbo to - intercooler to - intake collector hoses since the OEM ones on the 2,5 CRD leak oil like crazy and on the 2,8 CRD explode. This is what they look like:
They are specially lined to withstand the drops of oil the turbo coughs up every now and then. Hoses are in a development stadium, the prototypes have been send to various members to try them out and final modifications are being made as we speak. Now my fellow founders of EURO LOST Kelticknight and Jimmyjeep have found out that: A) the hoses will fit the older 2,5 as well as the 2,8 B) SAMCO's main factory is located in the UK!! Jimmy has been a real terrier on these hoses and talks to SAMCO on a regular basis. Many thanks! Why all this while we can also read this in the main CRD section: Retail price for the US has been set at somewhere around $300. We probably can do better than that. There will be a group buy for sure. But for us shipping will be pretty high since hoses will have to fly from the UK to the US and then back again to us! So, what we want to do is set up a group buy of ourselves, directly from a UK source. That will save us a lot of €. For now mass production hasn't started yet but as soon as SAMCO gives us the word the group buy is on. To be continued ( soon I hope..) |

I was in contact with Samco today. They told me in 14 days the hoses will be ready for production. They are currently in their final testing. I have a local dealer from whom I will try to get a price quote. I will then compare to what we can get from a group buy, and decide which way I want to purchase the hoses. I have no clue how often these hoses blow up, but I'm sure it's better to be safe than sorry. |

Hello Uffe, That's good news! And it would be great to have a price from your supplier so SAMCO doesn't rob us But you pay 25% tax, we can probably do better in a group buy...are there any customs restrictions in Denmark? Over here if it's send regular mail nothing, no problems so far. On your question on how often the hoses explode: I realy do not know...seems to be more of a US thing. For my car: I am tired of the oil leaking. And I want RED ones. |

Yes we pay 25% VAT here. If we buy from within EU we don't pay customs at all. We only pay customs charges for stuff from outside the EU, and in those cases you can get lucky and not get caught, then you don't HAVE to pay |

He has posted hoses out today ,so they should arrive soon and hopefully they will be a good fit. He mentioned the cost was quite high because of the liner used to protect the hoses from the oil that ends up going through them. He also said that they could be made in any of the colours they currently use ,which can be found on their website . And he has also said he will organise a UK distibutor to give us discount on a European group buy. He had wanted me to go to the factory to test fit them earlier this week but he had been misinformed that the test set were ready so he cancelled the appointment and said he would post them instead, which he has now done . |

I'm definately up for a group buy off the UK! Let me know what price we're looking at, I'll save every penny until I can afford those hoses |

When they arrive and hopefully fit well ,i will be getting back in touch with samco and ask Mark for the supplier he has in mind for a group buy. I'd have thought they would be more expensive than stock hoses but in my opinion it would be worth paying a bit more to fit and forget. Mine arent splitting but they ooze oil droplets which settles on the outside surface of the hose. And they have the bonus of looking really good, and he said whatever colours they have in the range he will produce our hoses in .So for those that want the stock look in black will be happy ,and those that like to colour co ordinate should also be happy. |

When we know a price I'll try to get my 'amigos' in on the group buy. So we'll be 4 more at least. |

SirSam has just informed us that the Samco hoses does not fit the non-VGT/VNT turbo versions. That means any KJ from before 2005 is unable to use the hoses However, I believe this information to be wrong. Someone posted that the 2.5 uses the same hoses as the 2.8, and to my knowledge the 2.5 was not produced with a VGT/VNT turbo. |

Uffe, for now it seems to be a '01-'04 thing, we do not have the electric cooling fan in front of our radiators so they are fitted further away from the engine. That and a different turbo... Keltick has checked 2,5 and 2,8 OEM hoses and those seem to be the same, just the material of what they're made of is different. I'll leave it to Jimmy and Sam to info everyone with pics etc. |

Have returned hose to samco and have asked him to send the to sirsam so at least the guys in Us are sorted. He said he will still do hoses for our euro spec cars as long as there is still enough interest. |

Pics of difference in hoses.Turbo hose too short and needs reshaping, diameter correct. Hose on battery side correct shape but intercooler end diameter too big .

Keltick: that will all depend on how much demand there is. If we order 3 sets I don't think they are going to make them...So I've set up a Euro samco thing. |
