Post subject:  MOPAR doggie / cargo rack....don't buy it

I wanted the doggie rack since I have two dogs and I don't want them to jump around the car while driving.

So I went to my local stealer and they wanted 380€ for the thing. Then they told me I would probably have to pay an additional 60€ to have it installed since it is fitted with bolts to the C pillar and to the hooks the rear seats lock in. It's what?

That means you can never take it out easy when you have to load something big. Since I am building my own house at times I need to load lots of stuff in my car like last week a concrete mixer.

So pass on the MOPAR one. I've got mine from Vmaxx Germany, will cost you 202,17€ (excl. Shipping) and being custom build it has 2 hooks that grab the upper mounting bolts of the rear safety belts. It's just as sturdy and strong as the MOPAR one, but I can have this one in and out within 30 secs. Another big plus: it also fits behind the front seats when you have the rears down so your cargo won't brake your neck if something happens.

Pic says more then a thousand words:

Well designed, this Mopar!

Fortunatily I don´t have to buy one at all - the other dog is too big to fit between the headrests - it would propably get stuck there :D

The other one is simply too small to reach the top of the backrest.

I would check more sources for this. The german based company Kleinmetall makes some pretty universal ones which do also grab a small baseplate that fits under the upper rear safety belt bolts. Got those in my official car and they are fine. Not expensive, think about 150€. Fortunately I don't need it im my CRD as my silly dog loves to sit in the back and put his head in the middle of the rear seat (I removed the middle headrest). Looks funny from behind.
But if anyone knows a reciepe for getting those dog hairs out of the carpet...

I had the Mopar rack for 6 years now (first got it for my 2002 KJ) and I'm quite happy with it.
It rusts a bit at the bottom (drawling barking border collie) but WD40 keeps it in check.
It is very sturdy and looks like it will keep everything in the cargo area in case of an accident but it is also a bit of a fiddle to remove and impossible to store in the car, I carry the right size of spanners with me just in case I have to carry something big unexpectedly.

Oh in case you have side airbags, forget the Mopar rack as you can't fit it.

I also have the Mopar hard plastic booth liner and that's great, even after 5 years of taking my collie to the beach twice a day, the cargo area still looks and smells like new.

The only thing I did myself is to hang a piece of sturdy plastic sheet over the back of the rear seats, holding it down by having holes in the top where the headrests go through, it looks a bit like a mobster's hit man car ready to carry a body but hey no dirt, no smell, a happy dog and a happy driver.
