Anyway this meeting thing is starting to get serious, I talked to my wife about it and she's OK if I go....alone, since she is not into the 4x4 thing and she doesn't want to leave our kids (dogs) in the care of others for more then a day or two. So Alain is there a campsite in Luxembourg where we could stay for maybe a week? I have been in Luxembourg capitol before and the hotels all seem pretty expensive... Edit: this was jet another brilliant idea by Kelticknight! ( the one who started Euro lost...hail to the chief ![]() For those who just tuned in: we are thinking of getting together in Luxembourg, if at all possible in September. ( I hope, then I can come as well ). Why Luxembourg? Low taxes, cheep Beer ![]() |

September is maybe not the greatest month for me. If we could postpone it to october (week 42) I could be persuaded to go ![]() I don't want to leave the girlfriend at home for a week. Personally I could go whenever I wanted because I can just take a week off, but I want the girlfriend to come along. She's a teacher and her holidays are strictly limited to the weeks where the schools are closed ![]() |

Sorry, I was off-list for some days. I think we can accept ANY Jeep vehicle if you don't mind? October is fine. Or maybe the last weekend in september, the 27/28? The last week of september and early october is usually still warm and calm weather but with cool nights. For those people who only want to stay for a weekend we can do a first gathering on Friday evening around a good meal (that's important), on Saturday a day-long trip with some easy tracks, same on Sunday with optional early drive home. When I still had Land Rovers I organized a large meeting every year with over 100 cars each time. So I know what to do. Will post pictures of that event soon so you see what's up. Will have to dig through older hard disks for this. For people wishing to stay longer I have plenty of suggestions on what to do. Hm, maybe do 2 days in the Vosges /Alsace region of France, a region regarded as having some of the best food/wine/beer offerings in Europe? There is the famous Schlupf collection of cars in Mulhouse, one of the best in the world. It's 2-3 hours easy drive. Or a daytrip to the Nürbugring (2,5 hours away?) Here some links: http://www.ont.lu/ the national tourist office http://www.opt.be/accueil/en/index.html same for Belgium http://www.lustin.be/village/acctmuseebierre.php the beer museum (Belgium) http://www.ardennes.com/fr/index.Aspx# nearby France http://www.collection-schlumpf.com/fr/schlumpf/ the Schlumpf collection in Mulhouse Near Luxembourg there's a nice dedicated 4x4 ground, ranging from easy to hard, about 30-40 minutes drive away. I might be able to have the regional Jeep dealer sponsor part of the event. At least it's worth a shot. A campground is easy to find at that time of the year. Shouldn't be any problem. Don't know about barbecue but this shouldn't be a problem in itself. Hotels are more expensive the nearer to the city they are. This is due to the status as financial center which makes for full houses. Mind lodging in a youth hostel? Is really nice and comfy, just reopened some months ago. I think I can arrange this. Else...maybe a studio for a week? Or a house? Cheaper than any hotel. Eating is an important task here. We have similar attitude towards a good meal as the french. Not as the germans who mainly want a fast meal. Sadly we have now less breweries than we used to. Just 3 remain which is still good for a country of 380.000 people. Nearby Belgium has hundreds of breweries, and it's only 10 minutes drive. Any comments? |

Also check the ferry from Hull to Zeebrugge, http://www.poferries.com. I usually take that one when goin to Ireland or Scotland. Saves time and money. From Zeebrugge it's 320 km to Luxembourg. Alain |

I had first looks around, stretching out my tentacles. We might get support from Jeep officially. Once I know a date I will see on this. Camping isn't a problem at that time of a year. Just know what you want. I can probably find also a hostel that offers group sleeping or even houses to rent. Keep that in mind. A hous that sleeps 6 comfortably is around 300 Euros a week, makes 100 for each couple. Not that expensive if you ask me. Especially if the weather turns to the rainy side a campground is a bit cold after 5 days. We can work out roadbooks for a week without too much trouble, so everyone can discover the region at his own pace if he wishes so. |
