| Post subject: | Gearebox filler hole location |
Just had a look at the manual gearbox of my KJ and I had problems location the filler/check hole. The Haynes manual tells me it is on the right, but there is nothing on the right side but a breather at the top. I could find, what I think is the filler hole next and a little above the drain plug at the left side is thsi right? The second question is what tool and what size do I need for both gearbox filler and drain plug as they are totally different than the front diff, transfercase and oil pan plug. |

Well my FSM says it's on the left side just above the drainplug and the gearbox holds 2.28 ltr of oil. I cannot make out what tool you might need, looks like a regular hex? |

Thanks Tony, The Haynes is all about the petrol engine so there is the mix up, the CRD has the filler on the left than, thanks. It's a hex but quite a large one, at least not one I have got, well I have to go to the store and find one. Thanks Tony! |

I just checked the gear fluid level, I needed a hex 17, I used the outside of sparkplug socket for my chainsaw which fitted after a bit of adapting. The fluid came running out, so the level is good only surprised how the dealer gets it filled up past the filler opening at the side. My Redline 75W90 and shockproof 75W140 will arrive today so I will be changing front and rear diffs soon, looking forward to that. It looks like the front skid bolts have never been removed, so the front diff has never been serviced in 82.000 Miles although my KJ has a full Dealer Service history, I'm not even surpised! |

thats why i dont let stealership near my kj anymore,just muppets work there,cheaper any ways to get someone else to do it or yourself |
