Hi all dumb newb question time again

My KJ is booked in this Thursday for a new cam belt, and as I posted in the CRD section, I am worrying a bit about a "tap tap tap" sound that I get once the engine is warm  ... have had a couple replys with things to check (though I dont think I'll get much chance this week cus of my shift patern, before it goes in  ) and wondered if A. anyone knows roughly what the cam belt change will cost here in the UK ? and B. if I ask them to look into the tapping noise (which I guess could be cam, follower, etc related) .. I'm guessing I'll need to sell a bodily organ to pay for it right ? :?

I did mine at Jeep Dealer CRD 2.5 at 80k mls and it set me back £ 790.00 for the FULL Service. To be honest I didn't think it was to bad, my bike cost me as much to have it serviced it was a major service may I add.
For what concerns the noises, it's a bit hard to answer without hearing it. Could be the belt or one of the pullys, I am sure they will advise accordingly.

Hey Fil,

Yeah I realise its not easy to diagnose issues on someones discription, but it is just a "tap tap tap tap" sound that rise's and falls with the revs ? ... just thinkin if I ask them to investigate, it could end up being a top end strip/rebuild :x I'm using a well respected garage about half a mile away cus the nearest dealership is a fair way for me, but he is a good bloke and always busy

What bike ya got mate ? (I service all my own bike's, but they are pretty simple ...... but effective  )

i have a Yamaha TDM 900 and it was the 24Kmls service that requires the head to be shimmed, that's way the bill is so high.

I guess if you know the Garage you should be okay. I suppose best get belt done ans see if it quiets down, failing that might want to take it to be done by Jeep or a VM specialist in the area.

Very nice looking these H&R, I thought they were black, but Blue looks nicer. It will look very nice with the yellow Bildstein shocks. Can't wait to see them on & have some feed back from you.

For the noise, I have see your post, but I am affraid I can't help you, I am sure someone will come with the correct answer to the problem. Did you read the Nooby guide in the CRD section? might help.

Yeah I was expecting black or grey, so the blue was a nice suprise :D , tho I think I'm gonna wait and see how much the garage bill is going to be at the end of the week before ordering another £500 worth of shocks !!!!

Do you or anyone else know what the OE frt/rr springs measure in height unladen, and standing free on the floor ?

also these look pretty hefty section, I'll have to get under the Jeep with my digital vernier and check the thickness of the OE ones on at the mo :)

Andy,

No idea of the height of a standard OE spring, but you can have a look at this topic here where it shows the difference between the orignal and the H&R springs : http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=51044.
You can see the H&R are longer.
Good luck with you service this week, hope it all goes well and the tapping stops.

I'm slowely turning it into a purpose built camping, touring, trail driving truck that will take me anywhere I need to go in any weather ... well thats the plan

I'll put up a couple pics once the roof rack, tints, tyres are on  ... nothing much to see at the mo :|

Did you camber & tracking sorted out? it's important otherwise it won't handle well.
Are you happy now with how it handles?

Yeah been upto 70 so far and nowt to report :D .. bit supprised about the Bilstiens to be honest rather than the springs! thought they would be stiffer than they are! feels slightly under damped at the front to me, but not an issue, and soak's up the bumps brilliantly on our shockin roads
