Alot of good info on here I did not see how many miles you guys recommend to change plugs?

Every 15-20K.

ok wow never knew it was that often. I think most the time they tell you 75k to do plugs and wires. I guess its just like oil you rather do it to often than not enough

Thanks

The owners manual states every 30k.

We have a V6 so we have three plugs on each side. You should see a coil pack on the drivers side (held in with 10mm bolts) pull them out and follow the wires to the passenger side and pull those out. You've now revealed ALL the plugs. Be careful because when you remove the plugs you have a hole leading straight into the combustion chamber of the engine. Bad day.

Just finished the plug change on my 2010 Liberty Sport 3.7l. I can verify 3 coil covered plugs on driver side and straight forward plug wires directly onto plugs on passenger side - piece of cake. Very easy job - no high anxiety needed. Only minor issues are that you will need to gently pry up hold down bolts on driver side with a screwdriver by inserting blade in between hold down ring and block after completely loose. It doesn't take much force to pop it free. Also you only need to disconnect the electrical harness to each coil by inserting screwdriver into the top of this connector. No need to disconnect the plug wires from the coil assembly as the whole thing pulls up and out of the way nicely. Hope this helps some newer viewers as this is a rather old thread.

Thanks for the update, DMC. It's good to have constructive feedback for the more modern KK's like yours. My '08 has six coil packs, one on top of each plug.

Seeing this thread reminds me it is just about time to do my plugs. I have about 30,000 miles on the current set.

No problem - happy to do as I've gained much insight from this forum and thought I should give back. Also, my manual shows a plug change due at 30k miles too but have to say the old ones actually looked pretty good yet at 31k. Used same NGK plugs that were used at the factory when new.

Great thread. This was the easiest plug change I've done on my 2010 KK Renegade. It was helpful learning that I had to pull up with pretty good force to get the wires off the driver's side plugs. I used some NGK Iridium plugs pre-gapped. It was such a simple job that anyone can tackle it with little know-how. Thanks for the write up and info!

Ok, so I am about to do my first ever plug change. What is the consensus? Thread Locker or No Thread Locker?

No thread locker.

And most people get the best results with simple copper core plugs, not platinums or iridiums (although the previous poster did use them). Because the plugs are easy to change every 30,000 miles in our KK's, there is no need for an expensive plug. Copper has the best conduction characteristics of any metal but wears down faster than platinum, etc., hence the 30,000 mile change interval.

Even thought my rig was running ok, I pulled the trigger and had the steelership replace my plugs at 105k. I did ask for the "parts" to be returned but the tech who did the work not only didn't return my parts, SHE failed to put the intake pipe back on after a throttle body fix. Now, I wouldn't normally make too big a deal out the pipe being left off the air intake (engine side), but this the 2nd time this dealership has done this. Once on my 2011 minivan. Drove around a week with it sounding like a had a holly 4 barrel with the breather turned upside down. Sent a pic to the service manger, he called to apologize. Thats as far as it went. He11, had he offered me a half off car detailing, I'd not be so ticked about it.. :SOMBRERO:

Oh but he did say my plugs were bad but he's seen worse w/less miles. :2cents:

I am having an issue with my ignition coil on my 07 commander. i replaced the coil but it seemed loose so i went to take it off but the nut wont turn, instead the mounting bolt turns and i cant get the coil off now.
