Post subject:  Automatic Transmission Fluid Level Check Procedure
CHECK OIL LEVEL

1. Verify that the vehicle is parked on a level surface.
2. Remove the dipstick tube cap.
WARNING: There is a risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. There is a risk of injury from contusions and burns if you insert your hands into the engine when it is started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving off by itself. Wear properly fastened and close-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.


3. Actuate the service brake. Start engine and let it run at idle speed in selector lever position "P".
4. Shift through the transmission modes several times with the vehicle stationary and the engine idling
5. Warm up the transmission, wait at least 2 minutes and check the oil level with the engine running. Push the Oil Dipstick 9336 into transmission fill tube until the dipstick tip contacts the oil pan and pull out again, read off oil level, repeat if necessary.
NOTE: The dipstick will protrude from the fill tube when installed.

6. Check transmission oil temperature using the appropriate scan tool
7. The transmission Oil Dipstick 9336 has indicator marks every 10mm. Determine the height of the oil level on the dipstick and using the height, the transmission temperature, and the Transmission Fluid Graph, determine if the transmission oil level is correct.
8. Add or remove oil as necessary and recheck the oil level.
9. Once the oil level is correct, install the dipstick tube cap.

so since they stole you guy's tranny sticks, you have to wipe off and use your regular oil dipstick and a ruler?

good write up! really hate they pulled that junk on kk owners tho

Or... You can buy a 2006 KJ dipstick - Mopar P/N 53034065AA. Ordered one thru my local dealer for $8.30. Mine is a 2007, which also does not have the tranny dipstick. It has cold (70) and hot (140) ranges listed on it. Works great for me.

My new 2006 trans dipstick arrived today. My local Mesa Az. dealer found it for me in California and I ordered it by phone. The correct part number for it is 53013592AC.

Interesting thread. So no dipstick in the KK.

So what year KJ did they stop putting in the dipstick?? 07 MY?

Mine is an 08 and it had a cute little twist on plug that said something about dealer service only. The dealer invoice says list price $9.50 but they charged me $4.95 with $3.50 freight for a total of only $8.86 with tax. It seems to me this was the easiest and cheepest remedy to keep tabs on your trans oil.

Thanks, . . . I`ll have to wait n' see ? . . . I used the Pt. # you gave . The other # given by long_tall_texan was a "Valve" ?? . . . . Mine come`s out of storage in October, so we`ll see ? . . .

Can you recommend a consumer oriented scan tool that will display the trany temp?

I purchased this Bluetooth OBD2 on Amazon for about $20: https://www.amazon.com/BAFX-Products-34 ... =bafx+obd2

Then you download the mobile app for your Android Torque Pro (about $5): https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... rque&hl=en

It has settings to check engine oil temp, tranny temp, and a bunch of other great tools and readings. I give it 5 stars, if nothing else the price point is extremely reasonable for the amount of features you get with it.

If you have an Apple or iOS device, there are other options, and you can also hook this up to your laptop as well.

Then you can check the tranny temp, and the level with a 3rd party dipstick. There are a number of them available online, I got my 3rd party dipstick from O'Rielly Autoparts store. Amazing, now I can actually check my tranny fluid levels woohoo lol!

If you want a stand alone device instead of a smartphone app, check out the Scangauge II. That's what I use and it will display 4 gauges at once. I use it for instant MPG, average MPG, coolant temp, and tranny temp. It will also read and clear OBDII codes.

How did you get tranny temp? Xgauge?

I am wondering about the chart for the level.

When i got my dipstick it comes with a chart as well, but it has the fluid level at a much lower increment. Which is the correct level?

A mate in the know says there's a bolt in the side of the gearbox, remove it and if fluid is coming out stop adding. I assume that the transfer case is the same.
Anyone tried this?
