I'm looking to get an HID kit for the truck and had a few questions I'd like to have answered before purchasing the kit.

1- Are you guys running a Bi-xenon kit (HI/Low are both HID) or a Dual Bulb kit with high a normal bulb? Are there any benefits to either? I imagine the strain on wiring harness is much less with the dual bulb system?

2 - Are you HID guys running a relay kit with the HID's? Without the relay kit are there any issues as far as melted harnesses, headlights flickering, engine light on, etc.? On my last car I had an issue with the kit melting the harness without a relay kit, and I hear that on some new cars (didn't find anything pertaining to jeep) the headlights flicker without a relay kit.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have them in my other car (2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse) and it's huge difference from a halogen bulb. Especially if you go with a low k rated bulb. I originally had 8000k bulbs in my other car and the vision was much better than the stock bulb, after one bulb died I switched to 6000k bulbs and it was even brighter, especially in poor weather. I hate not having them on the KK.

I run 6K bulbs in mine and LOVE them! They are 10X brighter then a silver star bulb.

However I do have to disclose that all HID "retrofit" kits are not DOT legal and should only be used for off road purposes.

This was the very first mod that I did. It was a no brainer. Ther difference in lighting was tremendous to me. id rather have more than enough light than just enough if you know what I mean. I went with the bi xenon bulb and the hook up was pretty easy. I actually have to rewire it cause as soon as i got it i was soo excited to install them that I threw it on so i have to rewire it so that way I can tuck the wire away and make it look more of a clean install. I still havent done the fogs yet....they are sitting on the shelf right now collecting dust.....

Well I got them and put them in a few nights ago. They look great! I went with a 6500k bi-xenon kit. Definitly a great addition to the rig. :JEEPIN:

I know this is post is old but I thought Id ask anyways. I just ordered some silver stars, but after reading this, Im considering returning them and getting these. Was the instal hard? Did you have to cut any wires? I dont want to mess around with the wiring too much because I know Ill mess it up big time. But if you guys think its pretty simple, I might think about doing some HIDs.

The install on them is plug and play. You have pretty much two main parts on the new digital kits: a bulb and a ballast. The Ballast will plug directly into the connection of your existing headlight wire and the HID bulb than connects to that. Some kits like an older kit I have in my Mitsubishi also has an igniter which wires between the bulb and ballast. Either way all plug and play no splicing. The install on mine took a total of 15 minutes maybe. The biggest difference between the two is HID = Illegal (unless whole housing changed with DOT approved kit which I don't think they make for the KK) Silverstar = Legal. On the other hand the visibility with a good set of HID's with a fairly Low K temp. (I have 5400 K) is incredible in all weather conditions. Halogens don't even come close to comparing.
