As some of you may know, JBA has a new lift available on their store, the Budget Boost lift.

It's $299.99, and consists of 2 extended strut mounts w/hardware and 2 rear spring boost pads. Looks like a nice starter lift that won't put excess strain on the front struts or springs, although it won't improve the ride quality at all if you are looking for a stiffer ride.

Image

Wonder if you could combine this with an OME lift to get 5-6 inches of lift? (Not saying that's necessarily a good idea, just curious.)

You're gonna want to stay away from that one. The spacers for the back are ok but not the front.

You'd end up with a pile of junk combining parts like that, would be basically undriveable
There are ways of doing lifts correctly and then there are ways that do not work

Ive been on this site long enough to know that if i had the money for any type of lift, I would go with the OME lift, as well as never add a budget lift on top of a full spring lift.

I am still curious though if this is the Teraflex budget lift that JBA is going to be selling? How does this compare to the Daystar lift? Just trying to get more info into this thread.

I can't really say much about the daystar except that their spacer is within the coilover and this is above it. It looks like the teraflex budget lift. The RRO OTT spacer lift is just like it too.

Was going to say the same thing. I think I might know someone who used one of those for a doorstop for a while. I don't think it even worked very well for that!

Yep Wildman knows I've had a set of these holding the door open since 2005 , got them with the ARB when I bought it since thats what they were trying to use

So they're junk then? That's kind of disappointing. I've always held JBA in high regard for the quality parts they sell. seems odd that they would sell junk gear. Are we sure this is the same junk one that RRO was selling? Or is this their own design?

My problem is that with buying a house I simply cannot afford even the OME lift, but I really want to get a lift so I can go on a couple of the offroad trips my local 4x4 club makes. Even a cheap "throwaway" one that I can use for 6 months to a year and then replace with a proper OME lift down the road would be OK.

Would this one be OK as a temporary lift, or should I be looking at something else?

I think JBA sells the Teraflex kit. They seem to be a bit shorter and may make a difference.
That said;
It'll work but understand that you can only use stock springs, the front shocks will top out on large bumps and dips and you'll have to grind off the top of the coilover bolts to get it to fit. The ride isn't very good, you'll be a little tippy 2" higher with the squishy stock springs. You'll also need Al's upper control arms to get a decent alignment and you'll still need longer shocks for the rear and bumpstops all around. If you're close to Akron I'll give you mine but I'm still using the rear spacers until I put the shorter replacements in. :2cents:

To answer your question, yes they are junk.

Sometimes you have to offer all levels of parts for all types of customers. Some people will buy them knowing they will not last and will wear out parts faster than you can install them

Some people may not like MY answer but, if that's all you can afford, you would be better off with a Daystar. I ran the daystar for a little over a year on mine before I bought a used OME lift from another member here. When it came off, both front AND rear shocks were trash! So do what you must if you really feel you can't wait and/or buy it a piece at a time over a few months.
