The way they designed the heat shield looks to block a lot of valuable incoming air.
It installs in a way that blocks the little intake tube we have behind our grille.
Thoughts on this?

It kinda defeats the purpose of a cold air intake without the heat shield

Agree completely
what that is doing is taking a poor system and making it worse when you remove the heat shield, Why not run an extension from the air intake tube from the grill on in further to meet the filter if nothing else .

Thanks guys for responding.
My dilemma is that with the heat shield on, it block the incoming air. I'll decide after a few takes if it's affected mpg or not.

even if it doesn't affect mileage, it will reduce performance. :2cents:

I will keep an eye on everything. I did this 200 miles ago along with a computer flash, and honestly it's shifting incredibly well. If this mod is a big deal, I think it'll show at the pump.

This morning I added the stock plastic extension from the grille to the cold air intake filter. 8)

I'll get another picture posted up tonight around dinner time when I get out of work.

Looks like I might move the filter towards the throttle body about an inch so the air hits the filter better.

Looks good. Got any data for us on mpg changes with/without the K&N and w/wo the heat shield? I'm curious! :jester:

Not enough data as I get too curious myself to change things around. Steady at 18 mpg city. It rises once I get on the highway.
