Sorry I used to be on here, had some personal troubles, forgot my account.....
So I just finished installing my 4in jba lift kit with crd springs all around. I'm running 20in rims with 33 1/2in total tire size. I have the springs tightened down about 3 1/2 in in the front and with this I get about 5in of lift at all four corners. My real concern is... are the front springs to tight? When hitting a bump I get a clunking noise from the passenger side front( is this normal)I believe the springs might be compressed to much, or the rims tire combo needs to be changed back to a more normal size..

Again sorry for the long first post, but any help from the pros on here would be great..

Thanks Geoff.

don't know how you got 5" of lift. any way springs take time to settle down a bit and get softer.
i asume you are using jba front coils over if you are using ome that is something else and the sound is your spring hitting the uca
or maybe you maxed out the cv joints.

I have the platinum kit. Front adjustable coils upper arms. My real question is am I adjusting the spring to tight? Like I said my spring starts 3 and 1/2 inches down from the top of the struts

Hi Geoff,

A clunking sound up front is not normal. I have the JBA 4 inch kit and the front end is silent. My rear track bar on the other hand is quite noisy (do you have the same clunk-clunk noise I do from the track bar at slow speeds?).

As for the front, there are a couple of things I would do. First, re-torque down all the important bolts in your suspension. If I remember correctly, someone recently had this issue and it was a slightly loose bolt where the adjust a strut connects to the vehicle, up in the wheel well. One of the four bolts at the top of the strut wasn't torqued down enough. If that doesn't solve it, check that you tightened your sway bar bolts with the weight of the jeep on the ground, not up on jack stands. Usually this presents as a squeaking, but it could be causing clunking as well.

That's all I have for now. Good luck! And let me know about your JBA rear track bar. I wonder if the noises I am hearing back there are normal.

Lauren

Please measure from middle of the wheel in front to bottom of the flare as well
If you are at or over 5 inches of lift you'll have a lot of issues coming up soon
Then if you are running 33 inch tires, the motor and transmission are working over time, if you haven't already regeared to 4.56s or lower

Yes, that's correct. I second going over everything. If a swaybar bolt is loose you will have a clunking sound as you go down the road. I had that problem when I first installed my lift. I forgot to tighten one down all the way. Took me a little bit to figure that one out lol

so all bolts are tight. Here is a pic of the front spring, do all the 4in lifts look like this? It needs to be this compressed to make the truck look level front to back.

it seems real tight i think the springs are the doing the clunking.. but im not sure

Looks like you're leaking something unless you just washed it.

How's it ride if it's really bumpy then I would say the springs are to compressed to much tension and the fox stuff should ride nice

Post your measurements front and rear from center of wheel to fender (ex. 22.25"). Also post a picture of you rig. Very few people have been able to pull off 33"s. I'm curious to see your set up. Also are you experiencing any rubbing. It's possible that the clunking sound is the tire hitting something at compression.
As far as your clunking sound, I experienced something similar. It happened every time I went over a speed bump. It has since quieted or I've gotten used to it. Not sure.

The springs will look like that, they all do. They are a progressive rate spring so the top coils will touch.
As far as noise looks like you have it cranked way up there will be interesting to see your measurements, plus I see you have quick disconnects on the sway bar ( they are useless and will make noise)

I also added some spacers to the rear shocks top and bottom, This took almost all of the noise away from the rear...

okay.. so I was wrong about the rim and tire combo. 20x10in rim with 275/60r20 tire = 32in

The other measurements are = driver side 21.1\2in ,Image Pass side a bit more than 21.1\2in,Image both rear about 23inImage

So this is how she measures up, please let me know what you think. Thanks geoff.

Heights are fine lift wise. Rear is at 4", front is about 3.5-4". Stock a KK sits about 18" up front and 19" in the rear. My 3.5" econo lift sits at 21.5-21.75ish front driver, and ~22 front passenger. Rear sits at 21.5". I know our front's limit is right about 22.5"(about 4.5" of lift).

Do you still get a clunk when you hit a bump? Is it metal on metal? Did you cut out the pockets for the a-arms or did you just bolt them on? If you didn't cut the pockets and everything is tight, my guess would be the a-arms hitting the pockets on down travel. If that's the case you can take it apart and cut the pockets a bit, or just let them self clearance as some others have.

Yes i still get a clunk every now and than. my front pockets are cut/bent out of the way. I'm thinking that maybe my front sway bar quick disconnects are not long enough and are hitting lower control arm. The clunking noise really only happens to 1 side at a time... (more on the pass side). It does sound like metal on metal???

:banghead: hey everyone i have a new question for ya... Do you think this is supposed to happen????? I can not find anything else that would make the front end sound like it is going to break something on every bump i hit.... :furious:

http://vid30.photobucket.com/albums/c303/gldoerr2010jeepkk/Mobile%20Uploads/20140928_100502_zpsedmfhjnt.mp4

if this is not the problem i have no idea what the problem could be...

So over $4000 in lift kit, and as it sits now... this is nothing even close to a Mercedes-Benz ride...
any comments please let me know.....

Thanks geoff...

First you have it cranked to the max pretty much so that is going to affect ride, but mine rides great, little over 4 inch and floats over speed bumps/ railroad tracks etc. On the highway rides real well
Plus the tire/wheel combo you choose to use will also make for a rougher ride
