Hey guys and gals. I'm trying to remove my dash tray above the radio to construct some type of switch panel there. Anyone know how to get this off before i start yanking and cutting things to run wires? Image this is the tray I'm talking about. Thanks for the help!

Take lots of pics! I have been thinking of installing my Scangauge permanently in that location, flush mounting it in the back of the dash tray with the wires hidden behind. That all depends on whether there's an inch or two of room behind the tray...

Ive been trying to pull that out as well. I will promise you won't break it. I pulled that sucker, and it did not budge. I am assuming the dash needs to be taken off or there's screws holding the tray on.

I think this is true. You can get a few side views of it by going through the pics in Diggerfreek's dash disassembly and center dash removal threads. There are links in the how-to index under interior mods.

I yanked mine out a month back, and removed it for my switch bank. There are three post type fasteners in the back of that tray. Each end and the middle. I broke mine off, and cut around two, and I have no earthly idea how to get it off successfully. If ya'll want me to post pics of the hacked up tray to see the back, I can certainly do that.

Please do! As well as your switch bank. I'm trying not to break to much

I know that this is a old thread but I am attempting to do the same thing to make an area to mount a control head for a two way radio and a few switches.

So it sounds like the tray is heat staked on to another part of the dash.

Mine came out by accident when I removed the center dash front. Try pulling and jiggling it. It should come loose.

Just had mine apart this weekend to install ham radio control head.

Need to remove the center stack cover, and then remove the dash top pieces, one on each side. Gentle prying at the seams with a plastic tool is best here. You can see the seam above the instrument cluster, and above the air bag. The tray is held in with 4 screws.
