Today I want to go add a little transmission fluid to my transmission because I knew it had been leaking. I accidentally grabbed a trans fluid bottle that had water and poured some water in it. I immediately took it to a shop and they replaced my fluid for me. They stated the put 8qts in it. I drove later on today and noticed a great vibration in my car. I read this could be low trans fluid so I added 1 whole quart and the vibration has only happened once or twice in a trip as opposed to 6-10 times. Could it be low trans fluid if so how much do you recommend adding? I won't be able to visit the shop until Monday afternoon and have quite a bit of driving to do between then. Also I changed my trans fluid last year and put the recommend amount in and Midas told me I was 3.5 qts low. Could it take 11.5 quarts?

This is such a scary post.
Why was there water in the transmission fluid bottle?
More importantly, I'd say take it to the dealer to have them CHECK the fluid PROPERLY. Not sure if MIDAS has all the proper tools for that or not.

I've added 2 qts since the mechanics have touched it. Now it's worse

Transmissions are so expensive to replace if something goes wrong... I'd really recommend getting it towed to a real transmission shop like AAMCO or to a Jeep dealership and having them start over with a transmission flush (to get out any residual water), new filter, the correct amount of ATF+4. The transmission dipstick (that we don't have) is not the only tool they use to determine the correct amount of fluid. Since ATF+4 expands when warm, they also use a special thermometer along with the dipstick to determine the correct fill level. If I were you, I wouldn't drive it at all until getting this sorted, in case the transmission is doing damage to itself.

So any of you guys who were interested my cousin took a look into it. The vibrating was my front driveshaft about to go out. They also did a full inspection. My brakes were down to 1.5 mm left. Also the shop I took it too before didn't install the gasket correctly so it's leaking transmission fluid too.
