I have done this before, but not on a jeep. Anyone have access to the specs?? Pinion preload rotating torque, end bearing cap bolt torque, specs on backlash, maybe the recommended shim starting points???
I ordered by gear set through JBA, do they include these instructions???

most of us have had a shop do it. there's so much that can go wrong with install. especially backlash. the shops will most likely warranty the work done and if anything breaks (as in how the hardware was installed) its on them.

If you have experience and the know how to do it, then power to you. I don't mess with gears and trannys. There's too much to mess up and go wrong. I'd rather pay a pro and get a warranty on them.

I think there's a link to the FSM in the noob guide. I have done my own gears. You might have to get a couple of Chrysler specific tools, like the one for the rear end that goes down the axle tube to tighten that disc that I can't remember the name of. The fronts are more strait forward.

Used to work in a Ford dealership and also a couple of private shops, did all of the gear work back then
Anymore, I'll pay someone else to do it, then if there is a problem they have to take care of it

I too worked in a shop, spent 13 years working as a dealership tech for GM. I feel fairly comfortable doing the swap, but still would feel better about having all the factory specs.
If I cant find them, than I guess I'll just pay to have the work done. There are 3 shops located close to my area that specialize in offroading.

Here's specs for a 2008. Shouldn't change much though. Keep in mind you'll need a special tool for the rear bearing preload adjuster. OEM gears are marked with the pinion depth in thousandths to give you a starting point for the shims.

Preload adjuster, that's it. Best to weld up your own as they are way too much when you can cut the head off of the right sized bolt and weld it to a long rod...
