Hi all. My '08 KK has the (apparent) common problem of the fuel spilling out of the filler hole while pumping gas. It isn't a safety hazard (according to Chrysler) and no TSB for this problem has been created. I asked dealer and they said I need a new gas tank to fix the problem ($800+). Anybody know of any other reasonable solutions to do a repair?

thanks in advance!

Burping is BAD. Check this out take it to another dealer or the one you took it to and tell them they are beyond help.

I got the same BS from my dealer. "Sorry your vehicle is out of warranty and we have no TSB's to support this issue." I have just been dealing with it. When I am almost empty I slow down at 14 gallons and trickle it in until it clicks off. Works ok that way. I have a 2008 too

My 2008 has never done this. Try inserting the nozzle all the way if you aren't already.

It's not an issue of the nozzle not being in all the way. Google it or check YouTube- lot o people having this issue with the Liberty (not to mention some other Chrysler product lines). Poor quality in the purchased parts that Chrysler is not addressing (as of yet).
(I work for them, I know)

I even saw one write up where a guy was trying to fix te problem using a modified fuel filler hose from a Chevy if I recall correctly.

I have received a notice from Chrysler stating that my fuel inlet check valve had been extended to lifetime coverage. Check with the dealer to see if it is covered now.

After taking it to Jeep last week when I saw the TSB announcement they fixed the problem for free. The warranty extension for the fuel tank overflow issue should apply to all 08's as far as I know. I would print off the TSB and bring it to your dealer or to another dealer.

I recognize this is an aged thread, but I have the same problem with my '09. The dealer wouldn't fix it because it was out of warranty. Anyone know of the lifetime warranty for the faulty part was extended to the '09 model year?

My '08 does the same thing. I just stopped filling it all the way. I'll put in $50 or $60 and it's fine.

Not a solution, I know. :) But I'm too cheap to bother spending money on a new tank, so...

The TSB/Recall is free if I remember correctly.
I have found that only certain types of pumps cause it.
I was out of town the other day and had to fill it. As soon as I looked at the style pump, I knew it was going to overflow and of course it did. The Exxon/Mobil stations by my house don't overflow it.

Yes, this is a free lifetime warranty extension for the '08's. Mine was swapped at the dealer last winter for no cost to me. No more gas bath for the KK every time I fill up.

Just found this thread... My 2009 has only recently started this overflow issue... Like in the last 2 months. Didn't hear of a recall or repair issue prior to this thread...

Mine was doing this a a year ago or more. Dealer replaced fuel tank due to some type of filler neck recall.

I called once while in San Diego, and I couldn't get in to the Dealer. Chrysler said my VIN didnt fall in the range of the free repair. But I think I'm going to start pushing the issue. It's ridiculous and dangerous.

My dealer said the same thing until she realized mine was a 2008.

I've got an 06 Liberty Renengade that splashes out fuel when I fill up. Thanks for the heads up about a recall. I'll definitely check that out!

Here is a newer thread about the issue. It looks as though only the KK and KA are covered. Either way, tons of good info in that thread.
