For all 2008-2012 KKs.

[*]This article is regarding Torque Pro and Scangauge 4.22.

5/2/2016- checking on accurate equation for Torque Pro as temperatures are inaccurate.

yep, you read right, transmission temp readings are possible, and actually have been since the JK came off the line back in 06. the pid number is the same on the 06 JKs as it is on the KKs... go figure right.

thanks to NAMoulton1 for posting over on Facebook a few weeks back.
first off download the paid version of Torque Pro. the readings will ONLY work with the paid version (verified). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque&hl=en
apple IOS has not been confirmed, but with testing DashCommand should work well (not-verified).

before anything else make sure to set up your vehicle profile or the next few steps for a few select KKs will not work.

next on the main screen hit the settings icon at the bottom and select "settings".
Image

scroll down untill you see "manage extra PIDs/Sensors".
Image

at the top there is 3 dots, tap them and select "ADD Custom PID".

add information as follows and only as follows:

OBD2 mode and PID: 22b010
Long name: TransTemp. (what ever you want to name the gauge really)
Short Name: TransTemp. (what ever you want to name the gauge really)
Unit Type: C
Equation: A

tap ok. testing will not work (or show any data) untill future steps.

agian, tap the 3 dots to add another profile (PID).

add information as follows and only as follows:

OBD2 mode and PID: 3e01
Long name: Wakeup.
Short Name: Wakeup.
Equation: A
OBD Header: 7DF (some KKs may need to use 7E0 if future steps do not work)

tap ok. testing may not work (or show any data) untill future steps.

now go back to the main page and select your vehicle profile.
Image

"EDIT".
select "show advanced settings"
Image

scroll down until you see in white lettering "Use Alternate OBD Header". All 2011 and 2012 KKs need to enable this to work. 2008-2010 KKs might as well enable this.
Image

in the realtime info screen add a display and add "wakeup" as that gauge. (wake up can be hidden behind any gauge).
do the same with the "transtemp" gauge.

any style of gauge will work.

good luck with trans temps now!

BTW, your fluid should be around ambient temperature before the jeep is cranked over first thing in the morning. readings are accurate in all gears regardless of refresh rate pull on the app.

Post your temps good and bad below!

For my 2008 I've been using 22B011 with an equation of (A*256)+B)/64 and it has worked without the wakeup. That's weird you need to send a wakeup packet, you shouldn't have to if the ECU is in normal diagnostic mode.

For anyone that's interested, you can check your tire pressures by using:

Code:
OBD2 mode and PID: 212x (where x=0-4, depending on which tire)
Long name: whatever
Short Name: whatever
Equation: A
OBD Header: 600

EDIT: You may need to setup a custom init string in torque due to how the adapter handles non-standard messages. Just add ATCM000\n before anything that is already entered. This will disable address filtering on the adapter so it can hear the response to the request.

Thanks for that! I'll check that one out a bit more. I tried that one and had no response. Probably just an 11-12 kk issue.

Since I don't have time to play with this right now, but someone else might... Gage! :goink:

Here are a couple of links regarding how to program custom gauges on the Scangauge II. Using this knowledge and the codes above, I bet someone can make it work!

I tried last year and couldn't get it to work on the scangauge, but I could have been doing something wrong.

Do you know which tire corresponds to which number? (Like for example, 0 could be LF, 1 RF... 4 might be the spare, etc.?) I could deflate my tires to different pressures to find out this answer, but if somebody already knows...

I figure you were actually doing it right, but you probably didn't have the correct OBDII codes last year (since we were using codes from another Jeep that wasn't a Liberty). Now that we know these codes above work for the Torque on the KK, I was wondering if the Scangauge would play nice with them, using the same method you followed last year to program it.

Lauren, Gage, I bit the bullet and bought the scangauge. So I'll test it a bit to see if temps and pressure will work.

The codes for the patriot (link provided by lfhoward) in theroy should work. If not theres work arounds.

It would be sweet if we could get the Scangauge to display trans temp, now that we both have trailers to haul around...

It's different jeep to jeep, the numbers are based off of the tire sensor ID that is programmed in, not position. Tire 1 will always be tire 1, no matter where its at. My TPMS is the dumb version so I don't know if that is the case for the hi line. My guess is there is another field in the PID that would have location.

Got the scangauge2 in today. Trans temp works great! Better then torque pro.

For scangauge to read out the transmission temp add in x-gauge:

TXD:07E022B010
RXF:046205B00610
RXD:3010
MTH:000100400000
NAM:TFT (or what you want it to be called)(display name)

Confirmed working on 2012 KK. Should have no issues with all KKs and being accurate.

EDIT: make sure to have version 4.22 on the unit. Not 100% sure if it works on previous versions.

What version software do you have? The codes supposedly only work with version 4.22 and newer at the moment.

After 2 hours of searching I finally found tire pressure for the scangauge. All 4!!! I will test out the PIDs Monday afternoon to validate if they work or not.

EDIT: tire pressure at the moment is not possible for Chrysler based ECUs.

also tried out engine oil temperature and pressure. no luck but there are plenty more codes for the engine.

That's awesome! Nice job working this out.
What's the normal temperature range for our transmission once it warms up? Is it about the same as the engine coolant, like 190-210 or so, since the trans has cooler lines that run to the radiator?

I'll confirm that the X-Gauge commands for TFT do not work with version 4.06 of the Scangauge 2 firmware. :?

Looks like I need to update the software on my Scangauge. If anyone else is in the same situation, here are the instructions for how to do that. There is an online form, a $25 fee, and you need to mail the device to them so they can perform the update. I'll probably go for it, because transmission temperature is such an important piece of info, especially when towing my trailer.

around the city its about 180* ish. highway was around 165*-175*.

also, remember the transmission is tied onto the A/C refrigerant radiator. transmission cooler is the top most part of the radiator visible.

I sent my Scangauge off to get updated today. I'll report back in a week or two after I get it back.

So hooked up the scangauge I just got to see how everything worked. Transmission temp works with your codes. I put everything in while I was on the beach so she warmed up coming off after sitting for 2 hours. The highway ride home I averaged about 170.

Engine temps average about 200, it gets closer to 210 when running the beach.
