Post subject:  2008-2012 jeep liberty lower control arm (LCA) replacement

This post is in reguards to replacing your 2008-2012 jeep liberty KK LCAs.


The steps posted below are from my experience and may not be the steps you find necessary.

Use common sense when under the jeep. I take no responsibility for broken parts nor injury.

All common practices of using penetrating fluid and anti-seize is highly recommended to make the install and removal easier.

Step 1: remove swaybar end link if applicable

Step 2: remove tire

Step 3: loosen or remove Clovis fork

Step 4: loosen cam bolts. Do not remove yet

Step 5: loosen balljoint. Soak in penetrating oil. A pickle fork to remove is a big help as it may be rust seized to the knuckle.

Step 6: remove cam bolts completely. Drop LCA.

Step 7: install new LCA ball joint and hand tighten nut.

Step 8: install new LCA including hand tightening cam bolts to the cradle

Step 9: install Clovis fork and hand tighten upper clamp to the shock. Crank down on ball joint nut

Step 10: put tire back on and apply minimum weight to the tire

Step 11: get cam bolts in marked alignment and tighten by tool. DO NOT CRAK DOWN ON YET.

Step 12: with minimal weight on the tire still, crank down on the clevis bolts.

Step 13: set full weight on jeep and tighten completely and maintain cam bolt alignment as well as installing the swaybar end link.

If ypu live in the rust belt, ir the vehicle was there for long, you will have fun getting the bolts out at the frame end. They wil probably be rusted and swelled up, jamming themselves tight in the A arm sleeves. Hammers, sawzall, or cutoff wheel will be your freind. Get good penetrating oil and soak the bolts and everything around it and let it sit. A torch to provide heat will help also. I had to use a cut off wheel to get a frozen nut off one bolt and a sawzall to get another off, then had to press out the remains of the bolt from the control arm bushing sleeve. Got new grade 8 bokts and lock nuts from Fastenal for less than what one factory bolt costs, on ebay. I removed the cams from the stock bolts and will have them tack welded on the new bolts. Lots of never seize will be used when getting reinstalled.
