I posted a thread asking about the biggest tires I could fit on JET 20's but bought wheels and tires. This is my first non car so needless to say I bought what I shouldn't have.

The tires I ordered are the Hankook Dynapros in 235/75r16, I like the vertical look and thought that would fit it.

Then I bought some ProComp 29s 16x8 0 offset.

From what I understand the tires will bloon on the 8" wide wheels, and the offset with the rims aren't going to fit without a lift.

Should I return the Pro Comps and get these instead and call it a day? Or other thoughts? Thanks guys.

Yes, you should return the ProComps. Those rims just won’t work with a 0 offset. Even lifted, they will rub like crazy when turning.

The tires you have will probably work fine on regular 16 inch KK rims. KK 16” rims have a 7” width and 5” of backspacing if I remember correctly. The tires you bought are 29” tall which is close to stock diameter, and according to the specs they will work on a 6-8” rim. 8” is maximum width rim for those tires, so it would not be recommended to go with an 8” rim if you plan to off-road with them (tire can lose bead with rim when aired down).

16” KK or KJ rims are not that hard to find on Craigslist, or at your local junkyard. Or find a rim you like that’s different but has similar specs: 5x4.5 bolt pattern, 7” width, 5” backspacing. If you do go with an 8” rim, get 4” of backspacing.

That's precisely what made me thought they would work, I read somewhere that 4" of backspacing would work on an 8" wheel. Unless I don't understand offsets as well as I thought. An 8" wheel with a 0 offset is 4" of backspacing. Why doesn't it work then?

It's really too bad, I really like these wheels.

Figured it out. The 0 offset was the 15” wheel. Here are the stats on the 16” version from the link you provided. The backspacing is 5”.

Size:16x8
Offset:13mm
Backspacing:5.00"
Bolt Pattern:5-114
Rec. Tire Size:235/70-16
Weight:25.0 lbs.

They will work, but you could get some rubbing if you’re unlifted and your springs are sagged. But they are not as far off as I originally thought. (I read it as 0” backspacing, which would mean your wheels would stick out way past the fenders, lol.) These are replicas of TJ Moabs, which is a favorite on many lifted KJ’s. Sorry for the confusion.

I returned the ProComps already, just waitong for the m oney to hit my account.

I was looking at some steel wheelsas well. There are very limited options in 16x7 in aluminum.

I was looking at some 16x7 with 4" of backspacing. Will those fit without a lift? Or still require more backspacing with a 7"?

These are the wheels in question https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crr-3527712

They also make them in a 16x8 with 5" of backspacing. That would require me to return the 235/75s and get some 245/70s, which should be doable as wheel.

Thanks for the help.

8 inch wheel with 5 inches of backspacing will work ( when lifted )
That size tire is way too narrow for an 8 inch wide wheel, need something with a 8 inch tread width

7 inch wide with 4 inches of backspacing work great when lifted , without lift you will have some rubbing
245-70-16s are not really wide enough, 7 inch tread width with 8 inch wheel, not the best scenario.
With 8 inch wide wheel you need something closer to an 8 inch wide tread, not section width , tread width
Lots of difference between say a Honda and a much heavier Jeep when installing tires

I would listen to Tom on this one. He’s lifted more than 40 Liberties in his driveway and at one point worked at a tire store! Any of the wheels you’ve listed so far (7” with 4” backspacing or 8” with 5” backspacing) will work with a modest 2” lift. Check out the OME lift at JeepinByAl.com for a really good lift that won’t compromise your IFS suspension (as any kind of spacer lift will) and actually improve the ride. The OME 1.5” kit actually yields 2-2.5” of lift.

Unfortunately with stock height you’re severely limited to tire size and rim specs.

The tire size you picked would be fine for stock height iirc it is a stock size. Problem is running that on an 8” wide wheel. Unlike cars where generally a wider rim and narrow tire works, trucks tend to run a wider tire than rim. Partially because larger sidewalls don’t like to be stretched, and when airing down there’s less risk of losing the bead.

So general rule of thumb, 7” wide with 5.5” of backspacing is factory and works. 7” wide with 4” of backspacing works when lifted and you can run a 8” wide with 5” lifted too. Some run a 8” wide with 4.5” of backspacing when lifted but it could cause some rub when turning depending on the tire size ran. If you run an 8” wide wheel you need to run at least a 245 wide tire preferably 265 wide. You’re gonna need to be lifted if you plan to run most of those sizes 245/70-16 will work stock. 245/75-16, 265/70-16 need 2.5” of lift, the 265/70-16s prefer 3+”
