Post subject:  OME 1.5" Lift for KK - Pics and Thoughts

Good morning! I'm asking for help and info about the OME 1.5" Lift from JBA. I know there are a lot of posts about lifts, but the picture links seem to be dead.

Does anyone have this lift? What's the quality?
What size tires are people comfortably fitting with the lift?
Any pictures of your rig with this setup?

I have a 1200lb camper I would be towing with my Jeep, any recommendations on which spring set to purchase?

Thanks,

John

its excellent quality. you should be able to use a 31 inch tall tire without modifications I have one with destination at firestone tires size 245/75/17

I would get two additional clevis spacers for the front. the springs are different ratings for the front axel in case you use winch or heavier bumper etc.

As long as the tongue weight isn't high it should handle 1200 lbs without any problem. cross winds will affect any short wheelbase vehicle more.

Perhaps you haven't received responses because you posted it in the tech section.

I would call the seller and get their recommendations for spring weight etc also.

I have pic but cannot post it right now.

I have done some trimming and pounding and the destinations above are 31.5 inches diameter. You can go to tire rack.com and search by size and pick a tire and look at specs to see the diameter of the various sizes for that tire

Great, thanks for the info. I'll also look in other areas to see if I can get more posts. There's lots of info, but no pics as the photobucket links are dead.

I've contacted JBA a few times, but to no avail. I'll give them another call.

I've towed the camper before with no issue; just take it slow and steady!

I got mine from rocky road outfitters. They were very helpful on the phone prior to placing the order.

Good tip on using RRO, thank you.

Did you get the budget lift or the rockfather?

I was referring to the Old Man Emu 1 1/2 inch lift kit. But I have a CRD with I believe the Rockfather about a 3 inch lift kit but because motor is what is bad I haven't ever driven or riden in it. I bought it for salvage. I also have a dayton lift kit which was very inexpensive seems like about $220 but its a kinda mushy ride.

I purchased this kit a couple of years back for my 08 (I haven't been on the board in a while) due to my stock suspension being FUBAR.

While I haven't and don't intend to put much larger tires on, there seems to be plenty of space for about a 31" with proper backspacing.

I am very happy with the quality of the ride; cornering at highway speed is no longer terrifying, it's not excessively jarring or rough, offload performance is markedly improved, all around it was a great upgrade.

However, I did (and still have) one major issue. It seems that JBA sent me improperly matched springs, and now I have a significant lean to one side of about 1". They corrected the problem and sent me a new pair of springs, however I no longer have access to the tools I require to swap the springs and since I only drive the Jeep occasionally, it hasn't been a high priority to take it to a shop and have them swapped.

Even so, it still handles much better than stock and I fully endorse this kit.

Late reply BUT much better places to buy OME than RRO
Go anywhere but there please
JBA has OME springs and shocks and better support afterwards

As of June 01, 2019, JBA no longer sales ANY LIFTS for the KK. I have the 1.5 OME lift. I'm starting to question if I have a top joint of the JBA "A" arm starting to fail. Seems to have a bit of play and it's on the pavement 99.9% of the time since it was installed but has had some decent flexing.

Don't a pic's of the parts and I had my Jeep dealer install the lift. But here's a few shots of what it kinda looks like. Just note, the BFG's are 32's so they the lift in the first pic doesn't do it justice.

This was with the GY Duratracs.

It is my understanding that although JBA won’t be selling lifts they will continue to make A arms and the joints that go in them. Is it a bushing or is it the ball joint that is giving out on your upper control arm? If it’s the ball joint you don’t have to go with a JBA replacement as the K6292 ball joint from an old school Suburban is a direct replacement. I went with TRW for mine, but Moog and GM make them as well. Direct bolt in.

I've had the OME lift kit for five years. I've also replaced the upper strut mounts three times in those years, grrr. I hope to find stronger mounts if the break again. A couple months ago I installed the JBA upper control arms. Man those are cool. They have slots in the ball joint sockets to aide in severe angles the control arm faces when off road. Perhaps this will solve the problems I've had with those strut mounts as well as the ball joints going out on the right side?
