Post subject:  Another Bad TIMP Module
Ok the dealer said my timp module is the cause of no wipers. It's about a $1700 repair and they don't offer a rebuilt unit. Now I'm looking for other options since it's an easy replacement. I read it needs to be matched up with a like for like optioned timp and has to marry your VIN in order to work. This is what I've been told. My local junk yard has a matching year for $200. should it work?

I don't really know, but I've seen it done on YouTube. That's not really all that encouraging, but it might be worth a shot for the price difference. The YouTube guy made sure that the battery was disconnected and he tied the + and - cables to each other to make sure the system was discharged. After about 20 mins of this, he disconnected the old TIPM and installed the used one, then reconnected the battery. There may have been some kind of learning procedure he did with the key upon startup. The TIPM didn't need to be programmed to the VIN by the dealer. Google "replace TIPM Jeep Liberty" and see what pops up.

As I recall it was critical to get a replacement TIPM that was not only from the same year, but from the same model with similar options. For example, if your replacement TIPM comes from a KK with an EVIC, then it may retain some programmed features from the other KK that you won't be able to change without an EVIC on yours.

The cluster stores a back-up of the options that can be transferred to the TIPM. I believe the re-learn procedure is with the new TIPM in turn the key to run, but don't start. Wait 15s then turn the key off. Not sure if this would work on a junkyard one though.
