Post subject:  Ouray Lodging Info. (UPDATED)

Hey all..

So I was able to make a brief trip up toward Ouray and got some info on all the places to stay in town. If anyone has any more to add let me know.

Do remember that the info for our LJS '09 Base of Operations will be the KOA campground just outside of Ouray. I am currently talking with them to hash out the details so I'd hold off on reservations for a bit. (possible group rate :D) I'll update you on that one though.
http://www.koa.com/where/co/06158/

UPDATE FROM KOA:
"Hi, yes you really would need reservations for this many sites and kabins, especially as we usually have 2 other 4 wheel club gatherings at about that time. We do usually give a 10% discount but need each individual site to be called in and reserved. we do take a one nite deposit from each couple for each site. we have a 2 day for a site and a 1 week for kabin cancelation period to get your deposit back less a 10.00 cancel fee for each cancelation. we have a great cafe right here serveing breakfast and dinners everynite and on friday and saturdays we have all you can eat texas style mesquite smoked bbq. I can't promise to have all in the same area, but nowhere is very far from others here. let me know if I can help you further. call and ask for Dave, for more detailed info. thanks so much for your inquiry, Dave, Ouray Koa"

Long story short: We have a 10% group discount but call in your reservations ASAP (especially if you want a cabin) Ask for Dave: (970) 325-4736

I also talked with them on the phone and they said that we need to get our reservations in ASAP if we all want to be in the same area. When you call, say that you are with LOST and they'll put us together. DON'T DELAY!!!

Other stuff:
-They have some Jeeps available to rent... 2 Door ($145/day) and 4 Door($165/day) JK's
-Full catered BBQ on site for our raffle day if we want it
-Pancake breakfast every morning
-Hot Springs On site

Alpenglow Resort Rental (vacation rental condos)

These are between $136 for a 1bd/1ba to $300/night for a 3bd/3ba. These could be a good deal as they said the 3bdr condo can sleep 10 comfortably.

Wow, some high priced digs you've posted!!! As I've mentioned in other threads, lodging ain't cheap in Ouray.

Add my favorite to your list... the Ouray Comfort Inn.

The rates vary according to the day of the week. For the period of Sep 13-19 2008, I'm paying $130.49 on
Saturday, $116.99 for Sunday and $94.49 during the rest of the week. My six day stay averages out to $104.24 a night... not cheap. (Note: that's with the Military/Government rate, regular rates are a little more expensive and range from $140.00 to $155.00 a night).

Their phone number is: (970) 325-7203

Make your reservations as far in advance as you can, they fill up fast. You can always cancel if you can't make it.

One other thing to remember... most lodging in Ouray have three pricing schedules... low season, mid season and high season. The dates for the 2009 LOST event fall right in the middle of the "High Season", which runs from mid-June through mid-August, so be prepared for sticker shock.

I would much have prefered to see this event take place the week after Labor Day... not as many people in the area, room rates drop, the weather is cooler, the afternoon rains have diminished and the Aspens are changing colors.

Just remember there will be other very big groups there the same time LJS '09 is going on.I'm sure the FJ group going this year will be there about the same time next year, they have some 250+ vehicles.

You only have to pay for 1 night in advance.... so if you cancel you're only out the one night... cost/benefit is up to you but I would recommend booking asap.

YES!!!!!   For next year!!!!!!  I reserved a Kabin for 7/10-18 2009. They only charged my credit card for like $50 just to hold the site. I can cancel at any time up to 7 days before arrival and not lose my deposit. I'd rather do it this way and know I have some place to stay, then wait and take a chance.

Comfort Inn Ouray, CO....

I just spent 6 nights up there last month... with my military discount it cost me $625.00 + tax. I just called the owner, Betty, and was going to book a room for next years LOST run. Forget it!!! They want $786.00 + tax for 6 nights next year and that's using my military discount!!!

So... any of you folks heading up there next summer, good luck finding a room at a resonable price in Ouray. We moved 36 miles north to Montrose and found a Quality Inn for $80.00 + tax a night at the military rate....

If you like to camp, I highly recommend getting a KOA Value Kard. 4 nights in the campground with full-hookups (WiFi, electricity, sewage, water, and cable) cost me $149.62 (taxes included). I saved $16.62 for using my KOA rewards card and will add points towards a free nights stay at any KOA. $37.25 a night is a pretty good deal for being in God’s country and still having all the comfort of home.

Just to confirm durangotang, is this KOA campground the one you're planning to be the LJS '09 Base of Operations?

Just trying to clarify before figuring out my lodging options (this late)....
