Post subject:  Who’s going to Moab after Ouray?
It appears that there are several of you who are going to Moab after Ouray, so I thought it might be neat to start this thread to find out who‘s planning on going. Honestly, I haven’t been back to Moab since my college days of rock climbing, trail running, and off-roading. I still have my West and East Moab maps showing all the trails, but it was the late 90’s when I was last there. Anyway, please add your name to the list. 8) Sarah and I will be departing Saturday morning (Jul 18th) for Moab. We’re not sure what our plans will be once we get there, however, kskj and I were talking about hitting a few trails together around Moab and Canyonlands. Anyway, I thought it might be nice to know who might be going and if you would like to hookup for a trail or two.

What does "after" mean date-wise? How much time do you people have off?

I am not sure that I am going to Ouray yet, but as a local, I could meet up with anyone going to MOAB. FYI, MOAB in July will be REALLY HOT! I'd be careful to keep an eye one those "dogs" because an eagle or hawk might mistake them for a bunny or something.

I live in that kind of heat, I can't imagine wheeling on slickrock when it is that hot. ugh. I might stop by just to see it on the way home and have dinner or something but won't be staying long or wheeling.

When I went to moab in 2006 the first week of august we just did a half day trail in the morning hang hang out in the motel in the afternoon (in the AC ) Then do a evening / night run. I'm probably going to stay two nights maybe three.

We did use the ac in the jeep. It would be nice to have the ac driving across the plains to. It's usually close to a hundred degrees in kansas that time of year too.

Moab gets hot, but for those of us who grew up in the Midwest, it’s not humid hot. :shock: As far as comfort level goes, I’d prefer 105 in Moab vs. 85 in the Midwest with 90% humidity. :wink: But yes, we plan to keep the camper’s A/C plugged-in to keep our doggies nice and cool. The nights in the desert get cooler, so it wont be unbearably warm at night. “Temperature variations between night and day tend to be relatively big during summer with a difference that can reach 36 degrees.”

What the heck, I'm in. (I grew up in Tucson, so I can deal with the heat...as long as there's A/C available.)

I don't want people to get the wrong idea... the rock in Moab soaks up all the heat and radiates it at night... as I said, when I was there last July..107 in the day... 100-103 at night... it was toasty :lol:

If you're camping, go to Big Bend Campground on the 128 (no showers or running bathrooms)... it's right on the river so you can cool off as needed :D

I've done Moab both in a lifted Libby and a lifted Rubicon. I'd be glad to give you some advice on which trails would work for the vehicles that will be going.

I have been twice once stock once lifted. Fins and things is a good Half day trail especially cool If you haven't done it before. Klondike bluffs and tower arch might be an easy and fun night run, but I'm up for anything as long as it isn't to crazy.
