I move that the official designation for the MOAB trip be referred to as the above subject line.

Well, since different peeps are showing up at different dates, not exactly. We are going down there tomorrow and renting a cabin at OK Campground. Sleeps four, has AC and is like $30 per night. I will review it for you guys after my stay.

Well it's 2 am and I'm still awake cause I'm totally skeeved by the HUGE termites that keep dropping onto my head from the ceiling. Ben's out like a lite.

The office staff is very nice and the other campers were very tolerant of all my drilling until 10 pm as Ben and I mounted my rock rails.

Our cabin looks like a tool shed with barn doors complete with pad lock, fridge, fly swatter and AC. Facilities are clean and well lit. In fact, I'm sitting on the lawn furnture as I type this since there's less bugs out here.

The price is right but I don't think I'll come back unless it's in a camp trailer or RV. The wifi works well enough for me to watch Netflix streaming since there are no TV's here.

If you have no problems with feeling a thud on your head and the creepy feeling if a 1" bug crawling through your hair every 15 mins, you're good to go. If you do have issues with it, I don't recommend it or at least not cabin 2. This had been the traditional spot of LOST Safaries past. They even have the official clock on the wall.

I'm staying at the cabins at the KOA in Moab. Around 50 a night. Hope fully no termites.

Hmmm... will they let you check the other cabins to confirm that you won't always have 'roommates'?

I got a jury summons in the mail yesterday. I opened it to find that they wanted me to come the week of July 20th - also the week of the 'JL and the Sunshine Band/Cool Kids' Moab Run.

I could request a deferral online - the county will only let you do it once. So I requested that the date changed to anytime in August instead. Crossing my fingers that the request is granted.

If not, no Moab for me.

If the JS wasn't sent certified mail, ignore it and claim you never got it. They'll send another JS in a month or so, at least that's what happens here in AZ.

I'd like to amend my review at this time. The 2nd night was pretty much bug free so I am going to chalk it up to a combo of all the rain and Durangotang being raised in a barn. The owners dig LOST and are excited about having us back in July.

Yes indeed. The cabin we stayed in had two queen beds and a pull-out couch. The other cabins had bunk beds.

MOAB is a lot of fun and your first trip will be a life-altering experience. It is a desert and it will be July so quite frankly, you can die if not properly prepared. It will be over 100 deg everyday and almost no humidity so dehydration can sneak up on you quickly. You will be sweating but the sweat will evaporate as it leaves your pores so you will not be "sweaty" like you get at home. Bring lots of water and drink it. Your mouth will always feel dry anyway so your body will urge you to drink, please do so. We're all in this together so keep hydrated for yourself and others that will have to rescue you if you don't.

Wear a hat. There's no shade anywhere and if you want to get out and look around the sun will cook your brains in it's own juices. I just bought one with an extended bill and flap that covers your neck.

Make sure your cooling system is in top shape. It might be a good time to get the flush you've been thinking about.

CB. If you don't have one, please get one. It makes it much easier on everyone in the group if we can speak to each other. Besides, you don't want to miss out on all the interesting facts and stories along the way.

Skids. If you don't have them, please get them. Rocks can sneak up and kill the day for everyone in the group if you don't have protection. Skids are far more important than lift.

If you're a MOAB virgin, be prepared to buy Pasta Jays for any Utahns in the group. That's out of my hands, I didn't make that up and I'm not sure I would want to know the consequences if violated.

Recovery points. If you get stuck, we can't help you if we cannot hook you up from the front and/or the rear. If you don't have a lift, this is even more critical since you are the most-likely to get stuck.

If you have a crippling fear of heights, this would be the time to let me know or get therapy. Most trails in MOAB go along and through canyons.

If your CVs are going bad, please replace them before hitting the trails.... Wait....thats me.

I want to make sure that everyone has the best time possible and look forward to being your Mr Rourke on this Fantasy Island. If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me. I will be sending PM's to everyone on the list with my contact information.

I hope everyone has fun at LOST Safari.

DO the Moab folks want to run Elephant Hill?

JL Rockies wrote:
We need a unanimous vote on this. Durangotang and I did this trail for the first time last week and we both agree that it should be part of any visit to the area. It's the most difficult trial in Canyonlands NP but not so crazy that a non-lifted KJ with armor and recovery points couldn't make it. We recommend this trail because it has all the elements that make up a great trail in the MOAB area and lots of photo opportunities.

Here is some logistical stuff:

The trail head is 55 miles south of MOAB
It's inside the NP so you have to pay $10 to get in
It's not and easy trail so more attention has to be paid to tire placement to avoid damage.
There is an optional 1/2 mile hike to confluence point where you can see the Green and Colorado rivers merge.
The trail itself will take 4-5 hours plus travel time so it will be an all day afaire.

Here's a trail damage report:
http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=65

You can also see lots of pic of this trail from our last trip on the trail report section.

Spent Day 1 on "Top of the World". We had lots of fun. There are pics which I am sure will get posted wherever they should go.
