Here's a few from Friday's great run: The Black Bear Pass trailhead. Heading up to Black Bear Pass is beautiful.... ...including this high country waterfall: (no caption necessary) Puff the mountain dog continues to explore each stop to insure everyone is safe. Telluride is suppossed to be down this valley and to the left somewhere. Don't see it from here, so guess we better head down to check it out. More hardly mountain wildflowers growing amongst the rocks. Telluride comes into view as Durangotang and 0311_DoC can be seen heading down toward the top of "the steps". While on the way down to "the steps", MP Jeeper does some flexing while one of his on-board spotters confirms everything is ok on the uphill side while yazhi continues crawling onward. When clearances got close, MP Jeeper used his two on-board spotters to check for clearance fore and aft. After the steps and crossing below the waterfall, Durangotang, wearing his "official tour guide shirt", stops to photograph others on the expedition coming down. MtnLuvr takes a quick pause below the waterfall below "the steps" of Black Bear Pass. tskalil evaluates alternate (e.g. straight down) routes to bypass the FJ-Jam at every switchback. Telluride is surrounded by gorgeous scenery. While climbing up Imogene Pass trail, some of the route taken down from Black Bear Pass into Telluride can be seen. See all the switchbacks? The scenery for our lunch break, at the lower end of the Tom Boy mine operation, can't be beat. Picturesque remnants toward the upper end of the huge Tom Boy mine ruins site. MtnLuvr enjoys being up over 13,000 ft on Imogene Pass. Eroding snow banks on the back side of Imogene Pass. kskj starts to navigate one of several stream crossings on the back side of Imogene. Strikeagle shows his underside while climbing down a rock. The official LJS '09 shirt. What a wonderful trip to the San Juan range within the Rockies. |
