This is an odd request but thought id post it here since we have alot of ohio members.

I am looking to find my old chevette and buy it back.

The last I seen it had been painted black and had been hacked up a little but it looked like this

Image

Last time I knew it was in Guernsey County Ohio. I believe it is still in the area, if anyone has any type of lead PLEASE post here or sent me a PM.

Ive seen a couple other black ones, what stands this one apart is it has a 231 buick V6 and a CLOSED knuckle Dana 30 front axle. The frotn axle is nothing special but it is VERY rare. Jeeps only had the wagonmer d30 CLOSED knuckle in 71. before that it was a d27 closed knuckle and after that the d30 was open. So its easy to spot.

I bought a rusted out beat up chevette on a chevy luv frame from ebay when ebay first got real big. nothing matched up

Once I got home it was to far gone to salvage so I bought a non running chevette and stripped the body and set it on that frame and wasnt happy at allw ith it si I shortened the fram 8 inches to match the wheelbase, but then the rear frame arches didnt match the chevettes so I cut it off agian and built a custom frame from the door back.

I hualed it in and had a reconstructed title issued for it. So it was legit as a 1982 Chevette rebuild

I drove it twice and found out the luv tranny only had 1st and 3rd gear. so I pulled the body off again and swapped the jeep axles and the 231 v6 in using the stock 2wd trans with a samurai case.

I ran it about a year like this and 4wheeled it a few times, it did good but it wasnt locked.

After I blew the 231 up I got another completely rebuilt it and found a th400and d18 combo from a jeepster commando that I put in. I decided this time I wanted to make it show only so I put 35" at's on it and did a bunch of body work/interior work. I sold it before it was completed. It ran and moved but needed some finish work done.

The guy who bought it hacked jobbed what was left and then the tranny went bad on him, and he sold it, then it was sold 4 more times and I got a lead on it a year or so ago and called the guy, he wouldnt sell. I tried to call him agian but the number is bad.

There are hundreds of photos here
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v135/ ... tte%204x4/
There is another album within that one of the rebuild in 2005
I started on it when I was 16yo so some fo the fab work leaves more to be desired but I did my best to make the frame look like it belonged there from the factory

Camaros actualy work best on 4door wagoneer frames.

As long as you don't try a pick-up, the 2dr & 4dr FSJ frames are interchangable excepting some model year changes. They have the same 109" wheel base. If anyone is interested in such a swap & needs the jeep part... 8)

camaros have 109" wheelbase, thus why they work "ok" for a swap.

I have a lead, but it may be a bad one we will see. I was told therwe was a black 4x4 chevette seen 6 months ago at wolfes tire in crooksville. I know for a fact there is ANOTHER 4x4chevette in theseparts and that may be the one that was seen but img oing to cvall wolfs tommorrow and see what I can find out.l

Im pretty sure i remember seeing something very close to that at Jeep Skool about 3 or 4 months back. I will take a look through my pics from past months to see if i can narrow down exactly when it was.

I dont THINK the one at skool wa smine but find the pics and ill know forsure.

There was one in the cleveland area on an early bronco frame that was also black.

I have no idea why everyone paints them black. I also hav eno idea why until after I sold mine I had never seen any tohers then they came very popular in ohio.

saw a gremlin did up once, watery coolaid lime green

i've always said if i had time to do it, i'd build somethin like that and wheel the snot out of it, i think it would be fun

I hope ya find it!

Definately not mine. Gas tank and rear cross member are all wrong. Looks like an older chevette body aswell. 1984 or older I would say.
Not tall enough either.

Got this email today from my CL ad.

Hi. My dad, Gary Hashman, has your chevette. He wanted me to email you and let you know that he will sell it back. He has $3500 in it and will sell it for $4000. You can contact him at (740)***-****. Hope this helps.

I kind of just laughed. I sold it for $1500. Last person I knew bought it for 1500.

I had 10,000 wrapped up into it. Im not going to pay 4000 to get it back, I would LOVE to ahve ti back and id pay a little more than its worth for it, but thats a little much for what it is.
