since I do "all of the work" :ROTFL: :ROTFL: its hard to get pictures
oh wait Lauren did some work and I could of taken pictures of what he did
well since it took him 5 hours to get the oil filter changed out I should of gotten a picture of that :-)r .
Larry was here, we tried to run and hide, didn't work

Yeah what took so long?
With a two inch lift it's 1 minute. Should be 30 seconds with a 4 inch lift.

Not sure he kept making groaning sounds, not sure what he was doing up there, I was working on the sway bar extensions, bumpstops etc in the back
I think he was laying up front pretending it was a hard job.

By the way I NEVER EVER want to change oil on a KK :grim:

It's not hard. I do it with just my hand, no extensions or tools needed to get the filter.
Where is it on the KJ?

Ha ha, thanks Tom! :-)r The groaning sounds were me breaking my arm so I had a second elbow so I could get more than one finger on the filter! :D Or was it disarticulating my wrist? That might have worked better. :dizzy:

Seriously, thank you Tom for your hard work and help today. Combined, here is what we got accomplished:
Changed out headlight bulbs and fog bulbs (removing front grille to access the lights)
Oil change :grim:
Rotated tires
Installed rear bump stops
Installed extended sway bar links (Tom had to sawzall-off the old ones)
We problem-solved on the extended brake lines and decided to save those for another day (and a brake shop who has the right parts/tools).

Speaking of brownies... Tom has all the brownies!!! I think I left them there. Didn't see them on the table. Maybe he hid them.

I have a few photos on my phone. I'll see if I can figure out how to get them off and post them up.

Hmmm, do you have that radiator skid/engine skid combo yet? :jester: It makes oil filter changes on the KK just that much more fun!!!

Brownies, huh. That explains the five hour oil change.

Look folks, this ain't Colorado. 8)

Enjoy! You might have to hide them from Larry.

Here are the photos I got. Not too many, but it proves we were there.
The KK up on jack stands:

A closeup of the rear suspension prior to sawzalling. Notice how little articulation/droop is possible with the stock length sway bar links. The new ones from JBA are 4 inches longer:

Tom firing up the grill for lunch, next to his KJ, which is rocking a sweet Rock Lizard bumper!

I wish I got more, but I was pretending to do work up at the front of the Jeep for five hours. :ROTFL:

I do not. That explains it.
So it has to be removed to do the oil change?

I probably would have an easier time getting to the oil filter if I removed the skids, but didn't want to go to the trouble. I could just get the tips of my fingers on the filter, so it took a while to figure out how to get it off. The old filter was narrower than my filter wrench, so that posed a problem. Tom saved the day with one of these, attached to a 16 inch ratchet extension:
Image
Getting the new filter threaded on properly was also a difficult task. I used my own filter wrench, which looks like this:
Image
I stuck it on the new filter by wedging a paper towel in between the filter and the wrench, and used a combination of dexterity and patience and a short ratchet extension to finagle it on. It really did take about 25 tries before I figured this out. If someone was paying me by the hour, I would have been fired!

Put it to you this way...

If you have never done an oil change on a KJ, ESPECIALLY A CRD, you will NEVER say that an oil change is easy on a KK for the rest of your life.

Dang I wish I could have made it, but a guy from 1995 beat me out! I was 8 years old. Kinda hard to compete with that. Worst part is that I'd have been willing to leave after 5 hours, not 6 minutes!!!!!!

Hi Gage,
The ride is actually a lot improved! The rear end absorbs bumps on the highway much better than before, and it has quieted down considerably as well. The new headlights are  WOW! I didn't realize how dim my old ones had gotten.
The oil filter I took off was a nondescript white one. I put on a gold Purolator filter that had grippy material on the outside to help me get ahold of it. It helped a bit. And it fits my filter wrench, unlike that other one.
I used 4 quarts of 5W20 and one quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I am trying to see if I can quiet the engine down some. It was doing a rattle or tapping sort of thing at high revs, especially when coasting. It seems to have smoothed it out, as the engine purrs now! Of course, it was in Tom's heated garage all day so it was nice and warm and happy. I'll see what happens in the next couple days when the temperature gets down to -25 to -35 with the wind chill! :dizzy:
Today's menu:
Grilled hamburgers
Homemade potato salad
Brownies (Ghiradelli chocolate chip ones-- with no other "additives" 8) )
Fresh local apple cider
It was a good day!

I didn't see that you mentioned you upgraded your headlights... What ya got now?
I'm guessing you're still in Ohio? Let us know when you arrive home in one piece.

EDIT: I see where I missed the post. Also, what fogs did you use?

Fogs: Sylvania SilverStars
Thanks for the safe travel wishes. I'll be as far west as Chicago on Thursday, then headed back east next weekend.
Should be interesting with the snow storm we are about to get tomorrow (8-14 inches forecast). I am hunkered down here in MI with my wife's family, ready for the snow. Jeepy likes the snow.
