And they already approved my time off for Moab. :pepper: It's a good day.

I have heard and read about it here that it has been done with out to much manupilation, but any of the books say drop the dif for spacing, but if I remember some did it in the parking lot of a campsite in Moab, just takes some finessing to get it out and then back in.

Haven't been on much lately, and I'm sad to have missed the meet at Stingn's.
But on a happier note, I got my WIA (Workforce Investment Act) grant ($4K) from the Feds,
and I start CDL Class A training on Monday. It's been 35 years since I went to school!
40 hours a week for 4 weeks and I will hopefully be driving a tractor-trailer. Job recruiters
will be there offering jobs even before training is done. It's been 14 months unemployed,
hopefully things are starting to look up for us.

Anyone know how much 'fun' replacing a steering rack might be? I discovered mine is leaking on both ends when I was underneath changing oil today... :furious:

With the mechanical fan it can be a pain but with out you can snake it up through the top. sort of slide it towards the drivers side and then up out the passenger, remove airbox etc to gain more room, may have to grease it up to slide better :ROTFL: Also remove the tie rod ends for more room
Been a few done it before, I know for sure Troy has.
Its like the front diff, book says a lot of things have to be removed ( like the LCA) which you don't have to do to get it out.

Make sure you get things in writing from recruiters, known of a lot of guys who were promised one thing when they talked to them and got another after starting, like everything now days
Thank goodness I've had my CDLs from back, well before there was CDLs
Have kept them, with doubles, tanker and HAZMAT up ever since just in case
If you can make sure to try and get tanker and doubles endorsement, plus the HAZMAT makes you way more marketable. Some places offer it some don't.
Doubles and Triples are fun to pull, esp. in the winter :JEEPIN:

Good Luck

Yes, I've been driving straight truck, (CDL B) both 6 and 10 wheelers, for 15 years, but no real jobs for those now.
Already have the Hazmat, just need the class A. Tanker and combos are just written, but will consider them. Thanks

I wish like all get out they would have a road test for double/triples, I bet over 95% would fail. I spent way too many of a sleepless night rescuing new drivers fresh from schools pulling double and triples off the pike in the middle of the night in some wicked snow storms. I would have to drive them into the terminal for them  Not to mention the drivers just pulling regular old vans  . They could barely get their white knuckles off the steering wheel to call dispatch to let them know they couldn't or wouldn't drive any further cause they were too scared. Not only that the really stupid service calls just to help them hook up a set or triples was mind blowing. Amazing some of these drivers actually passed any kind of test. My stories are only a few compared to what a trooper will fill your ear for hours with of the horror stories with "schooled" drivers. :ROTFL: I still say drivers should be required to wrench on them for at least a year before they get behind the wheel. Most drivers can't tell the difference from a steer tire to a drive tire let alone the rest of the components. There is a TON of work out there now for straight trucks in the expedited market......

Yes its too easy to get the doubles / triples When I pulled for Roadway they made you take one of their safety officers out and you had to hook/unhook go down the road and back up, and return and unhook My buddy went to one of the :drivers school" 3 years ago and still can't back a 45 foot flat for nothing

Glad to hear, wondered what was going on. I pulled for Swift for 10 months, lot of east coast miles, drop and hook, just not much pay. Went to TMC-a flatbed company-ran all over+Canada, was on percentage, made good money, and they are a top flight bunch to work for.
