I'd bring the boat, kayak or canoe:)

Hmmm, I don't have any of those. I guess we'll just see how well the KJ can swim! :ROTFL:

It also seems that El Sol has been getting active again with solar storms. I'm hoping for a good Class M or X flare when we're there next week. It might afford us a glimpse of the Northern Lights!

That really sucks Jayme. I hope you can get the issues fixed soon.

...and then there was one. Looks like just about everyone has dropped off this trip. :ALONE:

I know, I am equally super-bummed.

We will do other trips to that area. I'm actually thinking of doing one mid-December to coincide with the Geminid meteor shower - take care of two of my passions, Jeeping and star gazing! We will probably do a trip in the fall, too. I'm just not sure you'll be back yet.

Is anyone still going? If not, I'm going to be beyond bored this weekend.

We're still going and Tom may join us, but he won't know until Friday.

I thought you weren't going based on your FB post from yesterday. :dizzy:

My "new" boss told me today I have to be in Columbus until 5 on Friday, then its a 3 hour drive back here to drop the state car and get the Jeep and hope to be heading that way after that!

Everytime I think about that one or look at the pictures, I start laughing. I keep thinking about what that person(s) thought when they got back to their car and the tree was gone.

Ooooh...better yet, having someone else drive up behind them and wonder "Now why did this dummy stop in the middle of the trail???" :ROTFL:

So a few of us are thinking of doing a small trip to the area and were hoping someone has pics or more info they could share. Looks like we'll have 2 Land Rover Discovery and 2 Wranglers.

How were the trails? Anyone local be wanting to come out sometime in May? Is Jayme still around or maybe Grumpy can make an appearance?

Mike - if you poke around the site, I've got pictures posted from our various trips to the Manistee area. We'd love to join you, but May is kind of busy for us, as we will be heading out to Utah that month for a couple of weeks.

The trails in May can get quite muddy or can be bone dry. As for difficulty, they are primarily forest service roads and few rougher logging roads thrown in for good measure. Several trails run near the Marquette River and are quite scenic.

Check out the motor vehicle usage maps on the Manistee NF website: http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/hmnf/maps ... RDB5275851
It looks like they have updated them for this year, maps are divided by county not just district. These will have the most up to date info on currently open trails and vehicle size limits for those trails. A Michigan ORV sticker is not required to drive on NF lands.

If there is any other info I can help with, let me know!

-Vicki
