Post subject:  Spare Tire Covers

I've noticed that a lot of KJ's in photos don't have spare tire covers. I personally like the look of a good spare and wheel without the cover however the KJ's co-owner and budget director says "the cover stays." What do you guys and gals think?

Well if there was a tire cover large enough I would probably have one on mine (255/70/16). Even though I think I have a cool rim and tire package to show off, I'd still like to protect both from the elements if I could to help prevent any undue wear and tear...but that is just me....

The Rubicon Moabs and MTR's look good on the tail w/o being covered up. Since the stock cover doesn't fit it, I am not going out of my way to cover it up. It would have to be something really good.......

I think it depends on the wheels, If they are stock steel wheels then cover them up. If their nice alloys then show them.

It depends on the spare. I have the POS Badyear HP back there all covered up so I don't have to look at it's ugly stupid.

But....if I had a good A/T back there, I'd air it out baby - - - and that might be coming eventually.

The cover is supposed to protect the tire from UV damage, although I doubt it matters if you regularly do a five tire rotatation. I figure I'll blow another tire before the sun kills my spare anyway.

I used to use a cover. But it won't fit my new tires. I think it looks better without really.

No cover ever since my first flat.. When I changed that tire and removed the cover, it was an eye opener for me. It was a crime to cover up that beautiful rim.
Who cares about UV.

You would if you had a blow out due to a weakened tire from the UV.

The O2 in the air will kill it faster than UV rays.

I have the "Jeep Liberty" cover on mine. I keep it there all the time, but that's mainly because I have the Stock Turdyear tire on my nice CRD rim. I like the rim, but I'd pay to cover up the tire.

When I get a full set of larger-than-stock tires, I probably won't replace the cover.

I like a "naked" wheel...personaly :D . The hard plastic cover looks sorta rugged to but if you have real meats and cool wheels, show em off  .

I go back and forth between my Jeep Liberty cover and a camo cover. Every time I leave the tire naked, I think I am going to like it but I always change it back. Maybe its the tire?

I went to 245/70/16 from the OEM 235/70/16 and both me and the tire dealer were unable to get the old cover on.

I leave the MT/R out in the weather personally. I've thought about finding a cover for it but I really prefer it naked.

UV damage? Aren't there four more on the road suffering from a whole lot more damage? I say leave it naked unless someone comes up with a cool turbo diesel cover so we can show off and inform people as to their existence.

Mine looks good now with an MTR on it, will see how it looks when I switch to A/T's next week.

I have a "life is good" with a cartoon jeep cover that'll fit a 245 75 16 if anyone wants it. Not to mention the MTR's that I'll post in the for sale section right now.

no cover---but i do have 245 75 16's and the stock cover wont fit but they definitly look better with no cover even with stock rims. and if you rotate them with every oil change then big deal about wear
