Well, tell the story. Who did it? My guess is Service department, but spouse or teen child wouldn't be too far behind.

OK, so WHAT is it? Looks pretty funky for sure, water, antifreeze? Maybe someone tried to mix synthetic with regular brake fluid?

I'd go back to the previous owner and also see if the law can help you get him/her to pay for it.

My mom did this to a '73 Scout, either when I was in High school or in college and home for summer. Sometime in the '70's, anyway. She had put some ATF in the power steering reservoir. This was back when oil and ATF came in cans. Once you opened the can, there was no good way to re-seal the darn things, so she (or maybe it was my dad) had topped of the power steering fluid from a can of ATF, and then she had put the rest of the quart of ATF in a mayonnaise jar, but didn't label it. A few months later she needed brake fluid, and remembered the mayonnaise jar full of "brake fluid" (which was really ATF) and topped of the brake fluid with ATF. A bit later the brakes started acting weird, and master cylinder and all four wheel cylinders had to be rebuilt, and brake system flushed. Expensive lesson in the value of labeling stuff you put in jars.

I would say that some one was the break fluid was low and just put in anything they had.

I have seen this before.
As soon as I saw the picture, I knew it was the P.S. fluid.
