Let's see if there is a particular year for window parts failing on the KJ's .

Please vote for the appropriate choice.

Spent 4 trips to the dealer for these crappy windows. Once for lubeing of the Drivers window, twice for the 4 Way switch, and once for the Left Rear window.

'02 KJ here and no window failures,I'm a smoker so my windows get used alot, also I don't use the A/C very much either, only on long road trips,so my windows get rolled down everytime I get in during the summer(all 4).

Just like TJKJ up there, don't use the AC much. So living in Florida for 4 years, the windows went down, the windows went up....evertime i got in and out. NO issues. The passenger rear goes up a bit slower than the rest, but that has been that way since its birth.

I'm up to three windows on the KJ, now, all but the driver's window.

Our previous vehicle, a Dakota Quad Cab, took two, neither of which was under warranty.

2005 model with no problems. My windows are almost always down. Middle of winter, windows down with the heater blasting. Middle of summer, windows down with the AC blasting. Sunroof's always open too.

We should modify the poll to determine who has tint on their front windows. I understand a lot of people had regulator problems after installing tint on the fronts.

That might be difficult. My KJ came (new) with tinted windows. I don't know if it was done at the factory or was a dealer installed option. Just seems like it could make a difference.

On another note; my wife and one of our sons, when he's home on leave, have a tendancy to slam the doors. I've tried to impress upon them that it could be a contributing factor in the regulator failure. I have also wondered how much the desert heat has added to the problem.

Thankfully, my local dealer keeps a big supply of regulators on hand and gets the Jeep in and out the same day. You would think that Jeep, realizing the failure rate, would have redisgned the part and have dealers do the upgrade at replacement time.

Oops, I should clarify that I was talking about aftermarket tint on the front door windows. A lot of models came with the rears tinted (mine did). I was talking about anything aftermarket were a film is applied to the glass (making it thicker). If your fronts are tinted, I don't think it came from the factory.

My front door windows have aftermarket tint on them, did it when I ripped my whole KJ apart when I painted it.It made it way easier to do with the glass out of the vehicle.

When I bought mine (used) it already had tint on the front windows - not sure if it was dealer installed but it matches the back windows.

Except for a 5-month stint when I moved back to Albuquerque briefly mine has been in the wonderful AZ climate since I bought it. The only problem I run into is a moaning noise occasionally when I use them after going wheeling on a lot of dusty roads.

Both my rear driver's side regulator and the switch for the front passenger's side window died near X-Mas. At least for the front window I was wise enough to it since it was slow to respond when rolling up; however, the rear window regulator failed near Calico on the way to Vegas during Christmas. Of course that was only part of the trip as we continued on to Albuquerque, NM without the window up...brrr.

For those of you familiar with Calico, I was at the Shell gas station on Ghost Town Road.

Out of 40 votes so far, 9 with window fails AND eight of those nine were from the newer models which have not been around (used and abused) as long as the older models. That is significant.
