So I am getting a set of Moabs off a buddies Rubicon that he just lifted. He is going to run steel wheels. I currently run 31x10.5x15 tires on 15x8 Rock Crawler wheels. Should I keep my steelies stay with the 31s and sell the Moabs, or put on the Moabs when I get new tires and move up to a 265/75 and sell the steel wheels and 31s together? I would be painting the Moabs black or graphite if I kept them. If I sold the Moabs I'd sell them for $300 for all 5 and leave them silver. They are in good shape with a tiny bit of rock rash. If I sold the Trxus and Rock Crawlers I'd want to get around $500 or so out of them because I wouldn't wait to sell them until they were worn all the way. I'd sell them with a good amount of tread left on them.

I like your wheels, Id sell the MOABs and use the money for another Jeep or parts for the KJ......or if you were wanting to be really good, a college fund for your girls

I'd spend it on other jeep parts if I needed parts for my KJ. I don't need anything else for it, all I need is to install the front DTT. I was going to sell the KJ and get a Rubicon LJ in a year, but my wife wants a nice car she can drive the little ones around in so I am stuck with the KJ. She wants a new Audi A4 so there would be no money for me to try and buy an LJ and I am OK with that. She deserves a nice new car anyway and it is safe for the little ones too. As far as a college fund, I am getting that started when I get out of college.

I really really like the look of painted Moabs. Probably one of my all time favorite wheel looks. I like the look a whole lot better than my current wheels but just don't know if it is worth the change. Plus with the bigger tires I will lose a little more power I am guessing, so that is a downside to the Moabs as well.

I say keep the rock crawlers and 31's too.

BTW, not to hijack this thread, but what is the latest update on your girls? Haven't seen an update on the other thread.

Yep, stuck with the KJ. There are a few other jeeps I'd rather have my hands on but the KJ will do until I can get one.

I vote Moabs but only cause I like the look better than steelies, although the steelies are better off road

I am leaning toward the Moabs. The graphite or black Moabs are so nice looking I think. Hard to beat. But the steel are nice to thrash off road, won't chip like the painted Moabs probably will, and I already have the steel ones and they work. Maybe I'll put a feeler out for the Moabs and see what kind of interest there is in a set of 5 Moabs for $300. I need to price 265/75 vs 31 as well.

Those painted Moab's do look nice, but I vote, keep the steelies.

if you were closer you would not have to put out a feeler on the Moabs, need a spare for mine, lots of rock rash, and need two for one trailer I am just building and some just for ....for spares I guess

I figure I can get rid of them pretty easy if I need to, either set actually, so that isn't much of a concern. But I really can't decide on keeping the same or going new.

To me its a no brainer. I like my Jeeps to look good as well as be functional. The Moabs just plain look good.

The MOABS are killer on a KJ but, you wheel hard enough to warrant Needing steelies so I vote to sell the Moabs and put the money into the Girls piggy bank! You will be needing every penny of it as they age......

Yes, very true.

I also talked to a local guy who has seen a number of Moabs that have shattered near the bead while being heavily abused. There may be a great deal on some Moabs coming soon to a forum near you.

I would imagine that is possible with any alumimun rim.

I still wheel the snot out of my alumimun rims on my rubi, I was told the same thing back when I went to buy them 3 years ago. Everyone kept telling me to go buy the back steelies. I just couldn't do it.

As you can see I have not been easy on them.

This was one of 3 trips I did on Holly Cross, my Jeep has run trails in NM CO WY AZ UT ID and NV It was bought as a play toy and has not ever been my DD. It now has 56,000 miles on it and I put the rims on at 6,000 miles.
