Post subject:  How does Jeep expect to stay in business

We traveled up to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Marquette MI for an extended trip. I happened to look on line at what Jeep dealers were left in this area after they closed them. If you live in Marquette you have to go 70 miles to find a dealer! I am thinking if I lived here I wouldn't drive that far to purchase a new car because of the inconveniance it would cause to get warranty work. There would most likely be a Ford in my garage.

We live outside of St. Louis and we now have to go 30 miles for service, I can deal with that but not 70 miles.

The Chrysler/Dodge Jeep dealer that was close to our home was making a profit. They took on extra inventory to help out Chrysler but still got the axe. The owner went on record as saying that they were shut down because they contributed to the wrong Presidential candidate. He was suing Chrysler but did not hold out much hope that he could win, meanwhile his shop now sits empty. There are similar claims on the GM side.

There was some data analysis on that -
people who own dealerships tend to be in a higher income level
that income level tends to contribute to the Republican party

there was not a statistical difference between those that stayed open and those that were closed.

However as to Jeep staying in business - which was the title of the thread

they're going to use the name and Fiat's money.

Customer service / quality don't seen to be part of the calculation.

Jeep is an icon, just like Harley-Davidson. It is America, and the following is too strong to let it die. Remember Harley-Davidson and AMC (the bowling folks)....Harley-Davidson survived and shall continue to. Remember Coke and "New Coke". Now we have "Coke Classic". The people spoke and the companies listened. I wouldn't worry about Jeep as folks like you will keep it alive. It may go through some changes in ownership, but the core strengths of the product shall always appeal to the American spirit, and shall prevail.

I stand corrected. Thanks for straightening me out. But regardless of who owns it, it's still a Jeep.
