Do you really go off roading with a BRAND NEW Libby???

OK guys n gals - close yer mouths...I know the question is probably blasfamy in here....but I gotta put this out there...I wanna know!

Does most everyone in this club off-road with their rig? I mean - it sounds like such a freakin blast - but I just spent $25k on this shiny black Rene and the thought of a branch raking down the side of it, or slipping off a rock and gettin a big ole dent in her makes me cringe!

I think I'd be ok on a beach, a muddy loggin' road or some easy crawlin - but some of those pics you all are posting make me say; "HOLY $#!T THOSE PEOPLE ARE CRAZY!" I'd do it in my '95 YJ in a second - but my NEW Libby!?

Help! How do I get over this anxiety?

I just got an '05 at the end of last year. Earlier this year it got a lift at All-J lift party. Last month it took our family to Big Bear, with 4000 miles on the odometer

My only regret (or maybe not) is that it looks like I'll be smelling Gold Mountain for the rest of the Jeep's life, unless I tear out the ductwork and clean it or something ...

OH YEAH. First week I owend it did my first wheeling, was very moderate but still!

Now moddied and owing still some 1$,$$$ it's doing just fine.

It can handle it and most dealers are cool with it.

Got ours Last July, then took it up to Michigan. Visited family and wheeled it at the Pig Gig. :twisted:

As JJ said, after the first scratch, it`s all down hill. Most of them buff out anyhow...well, some of them.

All dent, dings, scrapes, and off-road pin stripping are offically fair game for a Jeep after that New Car Smell wears off.... And as already stated, "each one is a memory".

I comtemplated bodywork and paint last winter but, figured whats the use. I'm not going to stop wheeling it yet, so why bother.

I was also being asked, hey man, did you steal that? Nobody brings anything that new down here to wheel.

It took almost a year before I actually went wheeling but I was cautious back then too. I have three dings in my passenger rear door from some parking lot. They are the only body damage I am pissed about. Never mind the stop sign scrape down the side (yes it was offroad-long story), the driver's side rear door handle(tree jumped out), front license plate (forgot to take it off before wheeling) or the numerous scratches I can't even count. Wear those scratches like a badge of honor. Hell, I usually wait at least a week to wash the mud off after wheeling cause I'm so proud (oh yeah and it hides some of the scratches) :-)r

Just take her out and WHEEL! She'll love you for it :lol:

I have every confidence that you'll catch up to me on body damage after you get a tranny skid and some boulder bars on.

There's places in Wellsville I can take you that will turn your knuckles white, make the hair on your neck stand up, make your knees weak, and make your heart pound with pure ecstasy.

Then we can have a body shop party together. :lol:

Take that poor little Libby out! The first few scratches that are you fault will make you cringe a bit, but they're way better than parking lot ones. I took mine out to Hollister right away.

I saw two '02 4x4's at my dealer and they both just looked kind of sad. They were both all clean and shinny with no scrapes or dents on the sides or underneath and no wheel rub marks. That's probably part of why those crazy mofo's at the dealer wanted 15k and 20k for them. If you plan on selling it, then it may be best to not wheel it (or just do it really carefully). If you have no plans on getting rid of it, put that puppy to use!

As I mentioned in another post. My first off-road experience was Moab 2005. We did Poison Spider and Kane Creek Canyon. I earned my pinstriping at Kanes Creek ( I cringed as I went along each branch), a mini dent in the mopar rock rail, and plenty of scratches underneath on the armor. It was extremely well worth it! I had a blast. I even did Baby Lions Back, in the rain.

Although I voted "Hell Yes...", the only thing that sucks is, you'll have to repair all those blemishes when you go to sell the Libby because odds are (like 99%+), the only person interested in your KJ will be a soccer mom. And it's stupid not to get the most you can for your (future) trade-in, right?

With that said, now enjoy that Libby and wheel it like a rental car! :wink:

Bought my Liberty late on a Friday night and before noon that next Saturday I was crawlin' the fire roads between Prescott and Jerome.

It was just a couple of weeks later when I went out on my first L.O.S.T. run on the backroad to Crown King. There was a group of 20-somethings in full-size trucks (Z-71 Chevys, Broncos, etc) in front of us and they kept breaking things and getting stuck. First big obstacle I crawled up I was a little heavy on the gas (still hadn't learned to trust the Lib!) and people were hootin' and hollerin' and one guy shouts out, "That's GOT to be a rental!". When I made it to the top somebody asked what year my Liberty was. Before I could answer someone yelled, "Year? That thing still has the f***in' paper license plate on it!!".

Wheel that thing, I say.
