I do mine. Just a habit - err hobby - I guess. I have done every oil change on every car I've owned except for twice. Both of those times the Jiffy Lube type shops messed it up and I had to take it back for leaks or low oil. Mine is an un-armored 2WD so it only takes about 15 minutes from start to finish in the driveway. It's easy to to, takes less time than driving down the street to wait on someone else to do, and gives me something "fun" to do. |

I use that mobil 1 0w-30 during the winter up here. I do it myself cuz its way cheaper, about 25 for oil, 5 or 6 for filter and 2 to rent full lift and all the tools i need. Cheapest place up here for oil change using mobil 1 is like 40 or 50 |

In 29 years of driving I have never had any one change my oil, always do it myself that way I know what was done and it was done right. Use Mobile 1 and filters and change every 3500-4500, rotate the tires at the same time. Just did the 30th oil change the other evening on the KJ

I do it myself because I know it will be done the way I want it done with the filters and oil that I want to use. I am on the shorter duty cycle for the CRD and change it every 6750 miles. I alternate doing the diffs and tranny and TC each time. Tires are on a 3000 mile rotation schedule. |

I was taking mine to Oil Can Henry's because I worked there for 2.5 years while I was in school... So I got everything way cheap and my co-workers or myself did it. Now I do it unless I don't have the time because there is no Oil Can here.

I typically do my own as long as I have time. I used to take it to Walmart because they were the same price as the materials would cost, but the last two times I brought it to walmart they left oily handprints on the hood, doors, and steering wheel. |

 I do my own on my liberty, but I take my wife's to the tire place that I've taken all my minor car issues to for the last 10 years. They know me by first name and I like that. Plus my cars always feel great when I leave. I just hate changing hers because I have to jack it up and crawl under and I'm not into that... I use Mobil 1, regular type 5W30 & M1 filter every 3000 miles. I also do my 5 tire rotation, check all my other fluid levels, belts, hoses, etc at this time. Takes me about 2 hours, but mainly because I'm smoking between doing just about anything, listening to the radio, and generally enjoying messing with the jeep. |

I do it myself at the shop i work at. i've used valvoline 5W30 synthetic blend since i got it at 20k but next oil change i get to switch to 5w30 synthetic blend high mile since i will be crossing the magic 75k mile mark. i use wix filters by the way. |

I replaced the oil drain plug with the Fumoto valve which made oil changes in my CRD much easier. I use the oil recommended for Jeep CRD by AMSOIL a 100% Synthetic 5W-40 European Engine Oil. I changed the oil filter at time of oil change at 25,000 miles. I used the AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency Oil Filter number EAO34. I learned how to do it myself not long after I learned to drive. I have changed the oil in every car I have owned at least half the time. I used to take my Outback to NTB more often than I would do it myself because they always sent me coupons that were for about the same $$ I could do it my self for. I did the first oilchange on my CRD not long after I got it. I added the fumoto valve to make it easier. And it realy wasnt that tough to work around the skid plates. I plan on doing mine every time from now on for two reasons. 1. the mark up on synthetic oils at lube places seems high and I can get the oil and filter for way less. the dealership sends me coupons for diesel truck oil changes priced at 64.99 for oil and filter.....synthetic oils at extra cost in the fine print. I can get 2 gallons of synthetic oil for $20 each and a Napa gold filter for less than $7, so for under $50 I do it and have oil left over. 2. the oil pan is Alumimum, the drain plug can be stripped out easily. the last car I had with one was a honda prelude Si. A lube shop messed my Prelude up and would not take responsibility for it and fix it. I had to go get an new pan installed on my dime to fix the honda valdez. I never went back to that place ever and if you asked me about it I would tell you not to even take a rusted 72 ford pinto there. It went out of business a few years back too... wonder why??? |

Getting too fat, too old and just plain too lazy to do it myself anymore. I have a small shop I go to. Oil change, rotate tires, checks and top off fluid... $36.00. I pay for one and the next two are free (it gets customers in the door and in the long run pays for itself with repeat customers coming back for all their mechanical needs). Since I have three vehicles, I only pay to have one done and use the credit for the other two. It's cheaper than doing it myself. I've built up a good rapport with the shop over the years and they do all of my work, as well as doing some small odds and ends free along the way. I often get a 20% discount on parts and labor on the bigger jobs. Life is good... find a shop you can trust and build up a rapport, the money you spend with them will be well spent and you know your vehicle will be fixed right. |

Do it myself on the KJ, but I take the wife's Volvo to 5-Minute down the road. I can't jack it up; the way it's built it has to be raised on a 2-post lift. I always bring in my own oil and filter (since they don't carry the filter, it is a canister-type rather than spin-on) and they charge me I think $20. X2 on the Fumoto. I reach under the KJ (without jacking it up, a blessing) and turn the lever, then crack the filter to drain, then crack a beer to enjoy while waiting for it all to drain. The hardest part is measuring out 6.4 quarts of replacement oil. |

I change my own oil! I have heard too many stories about stripped oil drain plugs. Shortly after I bought my CRD I met two other CRD owners who were both using AMSOIL. Neither were dealers, they just like the product. So I looked into it and have been using AMSOIL 5W-40 European Engine Oil ever since. Live in upstate NY, the Jeep is outside and have used the block heater once always starts, even on really cold days to my suprise. I changed the oil filter at time of oil change at 25,000 miles using the AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency Oil Filter number EAO34. I'm a little over 150,000 Mi. and would like to ad a by-pass filter if I could find a good place for it. Because the Liberty CRDs came with aluminum oil pans, it’s very easy to over tighten the drain plug. To rule this out and ease oil change intervals in the future, I added a Fumoto drain valve. By simply lifting the lever and giving it a quarter of a turn, you can drain the crankcase without the need for tools. |
