I have the auto because it is the only tranny offered in the CRD. If a manual were available u better believe it would be mated to my little torque monster

Been driving stick shift since I got out of high school in 1967. Just bought a 2007 6 spd Liberty and love it - on-road and off.
Snick, snick, snick - nice tight shifter giving control over the engine. Whether it's freeway or mountain trail I want that standard. My favorite are twisty mountain roads - I'm lost in an automatic. I must say my new Liberty is much more of a sports car with the stick than the almost half-century of Chevy SWB pickup manuals that preceded it.

One of the main reasons I bought the Liberty now was that I wasn't sure the 6 spd would survive into the 2008 model year.
Currently I think the Liberty is the only SUV that offers a combo of V-6, 2 speed transfer case, stick shift, and tailgate mounted spare tire. I'm quite sure Toyota doesn't offer standard in the U.S. with 4-Runner, not too sure about Nissan with Xterra and Pathfinder. The Tacoma and Frontier pickups probably do offer manuals. Ford & Chevy SUVS with stick??!!! No way!

Whoops! I graduated college in 1967, not high school. So I've been driving stick shift since 1963! Please, don't do the math, I know I'm old.

My '02 Limited is Automatic. I can't imagine what driving a manual KJ would be like?

However as a Corvette owner, I prefer manual tranny's.

I have an automatic, but only because when I was buying that was all I could find in this area.

I wanted a CRD but they don't make them in manual. I drove a manual Pathfinder for 6 years and could not give it up. I found a Renegade in Kentucky in a 6 speed and had to buy it. When I searched auto trader only could find 8 renegade manuals in the entire country. So I felt lucky to find one in within a few hours from home, good ol Kentucky.

A Man Has To Know His Limitations Unless it's a Sports Car give me an Automatic I'm just brutal on clutches. I don't grind the gears I'm just ruff on a manual

automatic-it's one less thing to worry about doing on the trail

Yup....as far as A/T's go, put your t-case in 4-lo and your tranny in first gear and feel the torque.

I have a LAZZY Shift. The only reason I have this is because my wife does not know how to drive stick. I tryed to teach her and I ended up at my local bar.

I rather have a stick for many reasons. The top reason is that I HAVE CONTROL OF MY GEARS AND WHEN TO SHIFT. Next is Slowing down saving on your brakes and not having your transmition constantly pushing when your stoped.

Stick is better when your wheeling too.

I have found a trend over the years, when younger everyone loves the standards, as people get older they go to Autos. My little brother knowing what a stickler I used to be about having standards couldn't understand why I went with autos on all my Jeeps over the last 8 years or so, till we went wheeling 2 years ago with a group of Jeeps both standards and autos in Moab. Right away he understood why.

Yes to both questions........

Bought the 2006 Sport automatic first. Six months later, found one of those rare Rennie's with a stick (2003) and snatched it up right away. I love both of them, and have been driving Rennie-the-stick daily since we got him.

When I was young, I loved manual cars. Got a little older, had a kid, bought automatics. Got much older, and de-evolved back to manual.

I bought the only 6 speed manual on the lot in 2005.
I understand it was built by Mecedes Benz and may be installed in other MB vehicles but do not know which ones.
My manual says that the fluid should not ever need replacement.

Good luck with that never changing the fluid.

Yeah, the fluid is usually toast after 30K
