Auto. I drive a 9 speed split shift 100 miles a day in Chicagoland
traffic. :grim: I like to relax in my personal vehicle.

What are opinions or facts regarding when I should flush or add fluid to the manual transmission?
Can one tell by the color?
Is the fluid in my 2005 trans synthetic from the factory?

Auto here thats all you can have in a CRD in the good old USA. I do like manuals I have owned a few and was very good at driving them once I taught myself how. Have not had one since my Nissan Maxima was Totaled. That was the most fun car I had in a manual oh well I got rear ended so it wasn't my fault but I missed that car for quite a while.

Man-u-al here. You can chose between any of 12 forward speeds off-road. Even with taller 245/75's, the 6spd gives you some serious off-road control with a 48:1 crawl ratio, same as an automatic Rubicon. Auto libbies are about 18:1 even before you put taller tires on it, IIRC. The first gear of the 6spd makes a huge difference in the need to regear after a lift/tires. Oh, yeah: the 6spd got you the 241 transfer over the 231 used in all of the auto KJ's.

A '02 KJ with the auto trans and stock tires has a 30:1 crawl ratio by the #'s,after adding the torque multiplication of the torque converter added in it is well over 60:1.

Manual here. I will admit i like the manual offroad but after a long day on the trail my leg get very tired. Also if my kj had been an auto I would have never bought it. 4cyl auto no thank you :ROTFL:

if anyone is interested there is an 04 with a manual tranny sitting in a jeep salvage yard in vincennes. I'd take it but have neither the time or money to do a conversion.

Post subject:  Re: Automatic or Manual Transmission? Fluid change/type

Asking again, Does anyone know the facts on changing the 6 speed manual trans fluid?
Is my 2005 Sport 4x4 trans filled with synthetic or oil?
What viscosity should I fill it with?

Thanks for the knowledge.

You need to purchase a Synchromesh type of oil. It's basically a 5w30 motor oil with different additive packages

Owner's manual for my 2006 says, "Mopar Manual Transmission Lubricant or equivalent (meeting the requirements
of DaimlerChrysler Material Standard MS-9224)"

Doesn't really make a difference. I have run the Mopar stuff, Amsoil, and RP. The morpar stuff sucks....... Amsoil is great when it's hot, but this cold shift ability is not the best while the RP is great in the cold and acts like the mopar stuff when hot

From the Jeep owners manual; Mopar Manual Transmission Lubricant or equivalent (meeting the requirements of DaimlerChrysler Material Standard MS-9224)

I use Amsoil synthetic in my 6 speed. The bottle says "Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid" and the viscosity is 5w30. The back of the bottle says "Specifications Include Chrysler MS-9224 and Chrysler MS-9417 - http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?code=MTFQT-EA

The factory fluid is synthetic. I went with Amsoil because of prior experience and it shows up at my door in two days. Castrol, Royal Purple, Penzoil and Mopar will all have manual transmission fluid that will work and not void the warranty, if your warranty has not run out yet.

Auto here, I had to have leather, no manuals with leather. Plus as much as I love manuals, not sure how it would be for 4 hours of driving. But if I were to buy a 3rd Jeep, manual only.
