I guess they decieded to do the right thing before they get a class action law suit.

Should this be made a sticky?

http://news.google.com/news?q=jeep+libe ... s&ct=title

Quote:
"Chrysler is recalling 832,000 Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicles because of the potential loss of steering control.

The recall affects Liberty SUVs from the 2002-2006 model years.

A spokesman for DaimlerChrysler said the front suspension lower ball joint could experience excessive wear and looseness, leading the ball joint to separate.

The automaker has received more than 100 complaints about the problem and reports of three injuries. According to many of the complaints, the vehicle's front end dropped onto one or both of the front tires after the ball joint failed.

Owners will receive notices about the recall in September and the ball joints will be replaced at no cost.

The front suspension has troubled the Liberty before. The automaker recalled more than 300,000 2002-2003 Liberty vehicles in November 2003 because of problems with the ball joint, but some of the parts were damaged during the shipping process or installation"
Boy is that last sentence a bunch of BS!!!

I still think everyone who has had problems and who has not yet filed an official complaint should still do so.

Saw that on the news this morning. Great, and thanks for posting the release. I just hope the replacements are somehow better than the originals.

I saw this on the news last night and was so happy! No more worrying about the front end of my Liberty.

I just purchased a pair of MOOG ball joints for my KJ. Hope they will install them at no charge and maybe compensate me for the cost of the parts. Since they're not OEM they probably won't reimburse me but I don't want their ball joints on my Libby. I hear the replacements are not any better than the ones they are replacing. At least Chrysler is finally acknowledging a problem.

Well, since the only ones who would have been changing these out are "certified" DC technicians, that doesn't say alot about DCs certifying process, now does it?

And you have proof that they were "ever" certified? I would be flabergasted if more then 20% could pass a certification test..

Well, as I asked for before, I think it's time to either consolidate all the LBJ posts to one place or, since the recall is now official, delete alot of them. It would go a long way to "cleaning up the board". :D

Will be interesting to see how they will treat international customers. Is DC already contacting owners in the US?

DC has had trouble with other ball joints. Durango's and Dakota's were recalled back to 2000 while 99 owners with POS joints ate the cost.
I had an 03 2500 Ram 4x4 and they were toast at 21,000 miles.

Interesting DC said this:
Quote:
The vehicle has since been redesigned and Gates said the automaker believes the ball joint part will not experience the same wear patterns.

Its obvious to me the joints they buy are junk, what have they changed in the vehicles design to make the joint last longer?

This is a classic example of getting what you pay for, I hope the bean counters at DC realize now that their penny pinching on joints cost them big time on this one.
